thanks for posting it mate, any chance of changing the title of the thread to include the date/location etc so it gets more attention?

If there are any questions about the event please let me know as I am one of the organisers...

Cheers

Ben

Owners of the fastest Nissans in Australia have challenged RB30 VL Commodore drivers to the ultimate drag strip showdown at the 2006 Nissan Drag Challenge at Calder Park on Saturday March 25, 2006.

For the first time event organizers have opened the previously all-Nissan event to VL Commodores as well, though they believe the Nissan-bodied vehicles will leave the Holdens well and truly floundering in their tyre smoke.

The 8sec R32 GT-R Skyline of Keir Wilson from South Australia's Wilall Racing Team and the super-fast AVO Turboworld GT-R lead the Nissan charge, while the Commodore Kings Bresciani Racing will be out to prove yet again that they have the fastest and quickest Nissan Street VL in the country

Racing costs $55; spectator entry is $20. For more information contact:

More Details!

GATES OPEN 1pm, Qualifying starts at 2pm and Racing gets going at 5pm.

We will run it into the night. Starting with 2 hours of open practice, to establish what 'bracket' everyone is in.

Then we will start having bracket races, leading up to eliminations etc. Then we will have a full on blast watching the VLs battle against the really quick GTR's, and Benny's Datto ;-)

Schedule:

Gates open approx : 1.00pm.

Scrutineering from : 1.00pm

Qualifying: 2.00pm – 4.00pm

Break, Entering into computer, Seeding etc: 4.00- 5.00pm

Racing : 5.00pm--> Timed brackets

> 15.00 & over

> 14.00 - 14.99

> 13.00 - 13.99

> 12.00-12.99

> 11.99-11.00

> 10.00 & under

how does the hole bracket thing work... ? if my car is 13 secs id be racing against other 13 second people ?

if thats the case wouldnt people cheat and run there cars slower, so theyd be racing against slower cars and winning thus getting more runs in ?

im just curious how it all works :P

One skill is to be able to set the most accurate bracket time as you can. If your cars entering bracket time is 13.00 and you run a time quicker than that you lose the race. Thats why in bracket races you see some cars brake in the end to make sure they dont go any quicker.

GTRGeoff, Take it somewhere else, got nothing positive to add to this thread then don't reply.

LTHLRB, Yes you just turn up on the day and enter like a normal Friday night Calder meet.

Justin911, Yeah if you enter the 13-second bracket you'll be racing against other 13 second cars. Some people might do what you have suggested, the only other way around that is to do Dial Your Own racing, but I was outvoted on running that type of elimination for this event. There is a 2/3 hour test session before eliminations so that people can get a good idea of what their car will run.

Why so pi55y Ben? Last I looked this is the SAU forum and not NDSOC and I don't recall us advertising our events on your pages.

Actually here's something real positive SAU VIC DRAG DAY

Any other upcoming events for Skylines Australia - Victoria can be found Here!!

SAU Vic has been described as more a social club......with cars involved so enjoyment is almost guaranteed.

GTRGeoff, if SAU wanted to advertise their events on the NDSOC Website, they would be most welcome. Last time I looked, SAU Vic don't do many motorsport events, and this thread was added here for those in all clubs who would like to participate in a highly publicised drag event. It is put here in the interests of all enthusiasts, not as competition for the SAU Vic Club. I don;t understand your comment about SAU being a social club with cars involved, that is exactly what the NDSOC drag day is about, a social event with cars involved !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Geoff - please stop being a dick. If you don't want to go don't go.

Don't express your views on behalf of the club. Unless you want to come take over my job then you can express to your hearts content.

I reckon I might even come along to this event and see if I can get that 11. It seems this drag racing thing is something I need to learn to do better incase I find myself needing to do it again one day.

Ben - what happens is so far my best time is a 12.0? Do i get to nominate for the 12.00-12.99 bracket?? :geek:

Why so pissy? Because while I am a (committee) member of NDSOC, I'm also strongly considering joining SAU as well so that I can get more out of my GT-R with fellow Skyline nuts. I didn't realise there was some sort of rivalry between the clubs?? Unfortunately I can't read about the Heathcote day SAU are holding at the moment, but it does sound interesting.

Snowman, if I were you I'd pick the 12-12.99 bracket, seeing as you are right on the edge, making it harder for other cars to beat you in that bracket (including me with my two cars :P ). Maybe you can try and dip into the 11s during practice, then during eliminations back off a little at the end to ensure you stay above 12.00. Its up to you however. R31 Nismoids last comment would be pretty accurate :)

R31Nismoid, unfortunately no passenger runs as its at Calder :(

Thank you

yeah I know, you would also get it with DYO to an extent (people backing off).

I would have gone with DYO for an event that will have a lot of street cars, but when you get outvoted what can you do?

    • Getting a decent signal from all 6 throats is a challenge. I don't know for sure, but I suspect that the stock balance tube is not ideal for it. I have done it on an ALFA 4 cylinder (about 35 years ago, so don't ask for too many details). We drilled 4x holes in the manifold runners, put in some fittings and ran hoses to a decent sized (I think it was about 20mm diameter) pipe that ran the length of the inlet manifold. So, it was quite a decent volume. There is a "tuning" balance to be found between the volume of the common plenum on such a thing and the diameter of the pipes running from it to the runners. You need the volume to be large enough to damp out the sharp spikes in pressure signal you get as each runner gets sucked on by its cylinder, but not so large that it becomes too slow to respond to actual changes in MAP. And you need the hoses to be small enough to transmit the signal quickly, but not so small that they delay the signal. You might have to have more than one go at it, if there isn't any actual success based wisdom to be had here. Hopefully there is. Anyway, I would not do it on only a couple of cylinders. I would also not care about "permanently modifying a part". Just bloody drill holes and make stuff better. There is nothing sacred about any GTR unless it is a genuine museum piece that you shouldn't be modifying at all anyway.
    • He's still joining you, he's just delayed it and won't have the fulleh sick ITBs...
    • The strange thing is this is a URAS front bumper (or clone of it). The bumper actually does not sit flush with the GTT hood - You need the addon to make the hood 'long' enough to reach the bumper. I have no idea why they didn't incorporate this piece into the bumper itself.. instead of sticking it to the hood instead.
    • Another thought on this OLD topic: When you paint your bonnet lip, leave a small unpainted back lip/line along the back of the lip, where it rests on the bumper. That way, the line in the back is much more prominent than the gaps in the front/under the lip - and it breaks the hood-to-bumper connection at the "correct" place, when comparing to a GTR. I'm gonna do this with mine this week, so stay tuned for pics!
    • So I'm in the final stages of assembling my single turbo RB30/26 and had a question regarding MAP reference points.  I've seen several recommendations such as tapping the cylinder 2/3 ITB, tapping the intake manifold at cylinder 2/3, or using a point on IAC. First two are doable but require permanently modify part and the third is "out" as I plan to delete the IAC.  All that to say my question is can I used the "bleeder" in the center of the ballance tube as a MAP Reference? I'm running a catch can so I don't need it for the PCV system. My thought process is it "pulls" from all 6 cylinder, and it's between the ITB and the cylinders making it ideal for MAP reference according to what I can find. Thoughts?
