The strangest thing happened (well strange for me anyway) - I was at monash clayton tonite, and bumped into a workmate of mine. We were stopped in front of the tennis courts and were talking about our cars (he bought a 00 rex just recently). On the other side of the road there was a guy walking with a girl. The girl went towards the tennis courts, and the guy crossed the street and came towards us. He went behind my car (seemed to be looking at either the number plate or the bumper). I said "hows it going" and he replied and came around the passenger side - then he started talking to us - how his friend has a r33 and all that. Then my friend asked him if hes got a skyline, he said no he had a barina - and anyway after 2 mins he left. We thought it was a bit strange - but my friend said he didnt like how the guy had his hands in his pocket. Apparently his friend had been car jacked or something - and the guy who spoke to him had his hands in his pocket too. ;)

Anyway - this was all strange to me, as I never had anyone come and talk to me about my car (maybe cos the car I drove before was crappy), and 2) to me be looked a bit suss - but then again maybe im just a bit paranoid as this car cost me 6 years worth of casual jobs. Do any of you get approached by strangers asking about your skylines, or having your car checked out?

over the last 5 years i had many people approach look and comment on the skyline and the 510 over the last 15 years...i doubt it was an attempted jacking but being cautious dont hurt...

Always mate, i had a guy in a black VS V8 ute that his missues was driving have a big chat with me at one of the shell or bp servos, he loved my car, asking all about it. Everyone always asks what does my number plate mean etc. Asking all about my car, turbo, power, etc etc, mostly older guys down here that have had old school muscle, yeh they might hang it on me but they respect it, these are the cars of our generation. I love talking about my car/skylines/imports to anyone who wants to know abit more.

Had a guy at Brighton Yacht club approach me when I was showing someone my old Lexus. Seemed a bit odd as they are hardly an unusual car but he was nice enough and an older guy as well. Seems to be the older people from my experience with that and a couple of other cars I have taken to work.

Maybe they are trying to relate to the younger people on a common ground or just interested in something they otherwise would not normally get up close to in the case of a skyline and wasnt released locally.

I get it a bit, its on and off.

Its usually from older people (30+) who remember seeing mine and then the 32R's go around in the old Group A in the late 80's early 90's etc.

They are surpruised when they see mine, its like they expect it to be long gone these days hehehe :D

They always say, "Gee i remember seeing these things years ago"

:)

lolz yeah. like someone else said, you get people who will come up to you and ask you a million questions etc, and then you get the wanks.

dunno if its jst me but i tend to get eyed off by old ladies a fair bit lol.... like im always doing something wrong, even if im jst parked on the st talkin to someone lol. but 98% of the time all the comments and stuff people make are positive. :D

My best was about 20 people cheering after I bounced the car while a friend with ample clevage sat in the passenger seat.

ROFL

Anyway its not always a good thing when people come up to you and want to talk about your car... you guys take it for granted and enjoy the ego stroking (no offence intended to anyone) which is a very good way to find out exactly whats in, or not in, the car when thieves and potential car jackers go hunting.

At the end of the day you should be more worried about your own well being than whether someones going to steal the car, if you're not getting in/out of the car at the time, I'd be more inclined to say it's not yours, especially if they seem dodgy.

just look at the type of person and make a judgement on them..

i had 2 kids about 13-14yo come up to my car and started takin pics on there phones while i was just sitting in it, in a car park, but i thought there kids.

but if it was a 20yo guy id be worried that they got the plates n car etc.

just be careful who u talk to and what u tell them u have done, coz u never know whats running through their mind

    • Harness update time have had great fun and learnt so much already so far with this project. I started off making both the ignition and injector sub harnesses in the hope any mistakes i made here aren't as hard to undo and learn from as the main harness.  A cool comparison of the old harness using presumably TXL wire and the new which is using Tezel. Also opted to use DTM plugs to keep the whole setup as neat and tidy as possible and tucked the wiring under the coil bracket to try and keep it all from sticking out too much. Although the injector harness, I'm not overly happy with as I'm still using the rubber boots that are supplied with the type of plugs it just looks ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb with the white identifiers so a slight redesign may be done.   Then it was main harness time and most importantly trying to route it nice and away from the heat it will use the OEM heater hose routing which is no longer present to keep the harness up high and secure. it's amazing how much smaller this harness is able to be compared to the old one. plugged everything into the emtron and with the help of the tuner again attempted to start it up and instantly fired up and running smoothly on all 6 which was a big shock to myself. So still some routing and adjusting to be done for the final fit up and installing a knock sensor harness plug which is in the post all has gone surprisingly well.     The old harness for shits and giggles.
    • They do that at random every now and then, with almost no detectable cause. Mine has done it a couple of times (over 25 years!!). Never worked out why.
    • I don't post on here and have been lurking for some time now. Many of the topics have helped me out more times than i can count. I was racing yesterday (11/9) and blew a front right CV shaft. I have spares so I popped a new one in. A thread i read previously said to check the engine mounts if you blow a front CV. Upon inspection, the front right mount was completely separated from the upper plate. This discovery saved me time and money, because i would have blown another CV if i went back out. Just wanted to thank you guys and wish everyone luck with with their builds. (Now if we could only come up with a solution for my power steering belt flying off after hitting the rev limiter, lol)
