Well what a day!!! Awesome weather, great conditions and all round accident free event.. To sum it up, Frank had trouble all day with intercooler pipes blowing off due to shitty clamps, didn't really get a full session in.

He still managed a PB of 1:43.5...

Aaron managed a PB of 1:46.3..

I managed a PB of 1:49.5.... and also came off the track for the first time!!!!!! Doing 360's into the kitty litter at Southern Loop, that was fun, NOT.... Besides a very dirty interior (and damaged ego), the car is fine, no damage, the wall was still about 30 metres away....

So Roy u can say PB's were the order of the day!!!!!

On a sour note my brakes were not performing as well as they should, and can gladly say I've f**ked the set of rotors which I found and got machined the day before, slots are barely visable, oh well, looks like I better get those new rotors before Sandown!!!!

Im too lazy to log in as me so ... with regards to the rotor, getr a kew, meytal skewer and clean out the slots...dependign on the pad you use, you can actuallt deposit pad on the rotor. Pad deposits on the rotor are generally a good sign as it helps with teh friction co-effecient, and when bedding brakes is what you are trying to achive...so just check that its not pad and gunk in the slots....or they could be dead

Awesome work, how did Ferni go

Nay dude. I got a 1.45.95 in the last session.

It's good to see the top three GTRs all in the 40s... Congrats to all.

Sorry Aaron, didn't see the last session results, that's awesome dude!!!!!! I guess we all went there with a mission, and the mission was successfull indeed. PB's all round!!!

Let's not forget the other GTR's, not sure what Ferni got, he retired early with a faulty boost controller, and how about the other Andrew (BBGTR), sure he's a WRX member, but he has crossed over to the 'dark' side...

Ferni was spewing. I've been there too many times myself so I understand. Sandown is next. Hope fully we get a bigger turnout of SAU there. It's time to go clean the 34 and put the 19s back on it.

Don't know what to expect at Sandown, never had a good go at it yet, will have to chase Snowies time....

Brakes should be sorted by then aswell.....

Aaron, my car is the filthiest its ever been, I suppose cutting the grass and ending up in the kitty litter doesn't help!!!!!

Yeah I had a bit of trouble, first prac session was ok, but i was taking it pretty easy, 2nd session i went out and had water temp issues which i've never had before, and also some knock which i thought may have been the boost controller since it wouldn't let me adjust anything, but on the way home i gave it some stick and it was fine,(well i still can't adjust boost, its like its locked up). I think it may be issue with heat. But i did get one thing out of the day - 300+ rwkw with street tyres even with a GTR is silly. I'm not gonna bother coming back to the track until i get a set of Semis.

But it looks like it was a good day for the rest of you so thats good to hear :D

How did you come off Jack? Glad there was no damage :D Shows your driving towards the limits now at least :D

Hey ferni, it's always a bummer to leave atrack day early, at least with your car it doesn't seem serious...

I was coming in to turn 2 a little too hot, oversteered thought i could correct it with giving it some throttle and opposite lock and before I knew it I kept going around until I hit the grass and 360 into kitty litter. Closed eyes and hoped for the best, opened eyes to see the barrier a fair way ahead still....

Had to come off one day!!!!!

You got new turbos hey ferni?

Thanks for the mention Jack. I didn't have the best of days with the 4WD light appearing on the dash after the warm up lap in every session. Couldn't really get a decent lap, so it's a call to Ben on Monday for a diagnosis. Shame really as it performed well at Calder. :)

Well done to all the boys in the 40's.

Cheers

Andrew

Yeah exactly Jack, nothing too serious so i'm not worried too much. Haha damn turn 2. I always find turn2 and turn3 tricky. Glad the walls are well away from the track :)

No Garretts? not sure why you thought that, i got a set of HKS GT-SS from greenline.....

I'll state the obvious, but i'm guessing you already checked it - the attesa fluid in the boot, make sure thats not too low....

I wouldn't have a clue about Datsun 4WD systems. I'll have a look, thanks.

    • You know, that is exactly the thing that I was thinking a coupe of hours ago. I even had a plan for a meme, involving one big one, another big one, and the Old El Paso girl saying "¿por que no los dos?"
    • NoS, 2 of the big ones.
    • Oh, that's grim. Something bad has been happening there.
    • Put an endoscope down the hole and saw this. Not quite all around the bore but a good 60% at least. Chin to the chest and towards further disappointments I guess.
    • 2 does "sort of" applies, maybe......but looking at what parts would be needed for the swap to get engineered, registered, and insured, and basically that's everything under the car, the modifications the make it legal would be problematic and horrendously expensive, all for a street car that just cruises around and hits a few twisty roads on the weekends Also, from looking at the NSW rules and Regs, with all modifications that is required just to make the car safe and not twist itself to pieces, and then actually get registered for street use, may still be impossible nowadays As for 1, when you add in a fresh engine, fresh transmission, rear cradle and diff, tailshaft, suspension, brakes, cooling, and all the other fabrication required, your probably looking at up to $100k to do it right, all for a 20 year old MX5 that is over engineered and you would never be able to actually use the power it has on the street, much like your beastie, which I love, but you actually track that thing and can use all of its powers in anger, in a safe environment  Hell, the old Bogan Cruise Ship had more power than I could use on the street, and in hindsight, I went a bit silly on that thing, it didn't really need the 500hp it had for what I actually used the car for, it was fun, but basically unusable on the street if you value your licence  As for cams, yeah, I'll probably book it in for them to get installed and tuned soonish, like next month after MX5 Mania are back at work....... and yes, I've already sent a email to bin the turbo quote and quote instead to install cams and a new Fluidampr balancer that will suit the 2.5 better than the OEM 2.0 balancer that is swapped over for the 2.5 install, as the balancer needs to get pulled to time the cams it's a while your in there sort of thing I did think a bit about flex fuel for a laugh, but being na, and no where really around locally anymore to get E85, I've binned that idea, so no sweet sweet corn smells are set for the car I wish E85 was more of a standard fuel, it's better for the environment, better for tuning, plus that sweet sweet smell we all love As for fitting in the family, that's not needed, as everyone in the family already owns a car that can seat 5 humans comfortably enough, the MX5 is "my toy" As for buying a car that is already built, nah, I would rather pick and choose my parts, I enjoy the process, and in the big picture, the additional cost is well worth the enjoyment, and the occasional frustration, I get out of doing it, albeit with other people spinning the spanners, and me, just paying the invoice 🤣
