i personally think if a car doesnt have 3 pedals its not worth driving [hard]. so def go a manual if you're in that position. my story is i was in 2 1990 mazda astinas with 92kw fwd for a couple of years (but both were manual), now im in a 1989 manual s13 with a ca18det and ive had no problems adjusting to the whole boost/kick out in the wet thing, just gotta take it easy in the first few months i'd say then you'll get a feel of when to put the power down and when not to..

OH and invest in good tyres! the tyres that were on it were rather worn, when i say that if u ran ur fingers across the rears u could nearly feel some tread... so was heading up 90kmh high way thing (slight up hill) in a heavy downpour, was giving it the smallest amount of throttle possible and going below the speed limit and i felt the tail just start to move to the side.. and i was actively trying to give it next to nothing throttle! got new tyres now, but ive learnt just from that little 'aquaplane/slide thing' to stick with good tread! :D
