Latest Update after Tuning

Well I took the car to Hitman - Injection Tuning on Saturday morning to get the current setup tuned to the optimum output (pure power tune, not economy or anything). Just wanted to see what type of numbers we could reach just from latest round of goodies. If you want to see what we have put in, click on my signature photo and go to the Modifications page on my site.

Initial base run on the dyno came out at 166rwkw with A/F Ratios at 16:1!!! Yes, very dangerous levels indeed - much too lean! This shocked not only the tuner, but also me and my mechanic as the previous tune had the A/F ratios set to a straight 12.5:1 This goes to show the following:

1) The new setup has drastically changed the car and knocked it out of tune big time.

2) There is a massive difference between the amount of air flowing from the old turbo setup to the new turbo setup (new one flows almost 250% more).

3) Hub Dynoes are "very happy" and the reading from the last tune (194.6rwkw) can now be disregarded.

Anyways, next run was done with no SAFC2 interaction - all settings to ZERO. The outcome was 182rwkw! Yes that is right, a major increase just from turning the computer off. That is to say that the SAFC2 was actually doing my car more harm than good when we first drove in. Again this was very very surprising and at the same time kind of unsettling!

The next step was to engage the SAFC2 and re-map the A/F ratios based on this run. All the settings on the SAFC2 were revised by Hitman and fine tuned until we hit 189rwkw - this was still at 9.5psi of boost.

Once the tune was all settled, we tried to up the boost... the absolute max we could crank it up to was 11psi, anymore than that and the factory protection systems kick in and shut the car down  We had come to a massive barrier.

Basically it was explained that the new turbo is flowing that much air that it's completely off the scale when compared to the factory ECU readings hence the "rich and retard" protection kicking in so early. At 11psi of boost we were peaking at 198.2rwkw - on a hub dyno we would be looking at 233rwkw which would be the same ratio of increase if we had took it to the old tuner. When we asked him why he didn't play with the Air Flow Ratio on the SAFC, he said that he wouldn't go near it as it would knock a lot of the other settings out of line making the setup unstable ~

We had a look at the timing and found it to be 4degrees retarded (at 11) so we advanced it back towards the factory 15 mark and that alone produced a 2rwkw gain.

A/F ratios were tuned to an average of 12.3 or 12.4:1 which is a little leaner than what we wanted but it'd still be ok for now. All 11psi is reached at about 1,800rpm which is bloody awesome - absolutely no lag at all :) There is power throughout all the gears and it is a very linear power curve.

Things I need to do for the next tune (hopefully in a month or so):

1) Get bigger injectors - 750cc should do it

2) Haltech e11v2 with on-board boost control

Total of $4k just for these two mods :(

With these two items, and the current setup - it should see me happily get to 250rwkw (capped due to gearbox) but potentially 280rwkw (turbo at 100% efficiency range).

At the moment we are running 0.74 bar of boost or 11psi. The efficiency range of this turbo is between 15psi and 22psi so there is much improvement to be had here

End Note

I'm going to take my session at Hitman as a learning experience; it shows that thorough research does pay off. Even though we were capped at 200rwkw this day, I did drive away with a much safer and better responding car. Besides, it gives me time to get used to the new power :P

Gains for the day = 32.2rwkw

A big round of applause to the Hitman crew for doing such a fine job and at a great price (even though we had connections there :D). 2.5 hours of dyno time and VIP service - what more could you ask for  Overall I am very happy as it feels like I've driven away with a brand new car - there is just so much more power and response readily available across the entire RPM range - damn the drive home was fun

EDIT - Dyno Graphs Added: (apologies for the bad image - taken with camera ;))

good stuff stan. hope you are happy with the result, it looks good.

its all a learning experience and part of the fun i say

you wont need or be able to find 740ccs for the 25 neo, only 550c nismo's

how does the haltech go supporting the auto gearbox?

Well in that case I think the 550cc injectors will have to do...

The Haltech can be wired up to replace all signals to the factory ECU except the auto gearbox signal. This means it's pretty much a stand-alone whilst maintaining the gear shift logic.

Cheers mate...

BTW: anyone got a link to the 550cc injectors?

Greenline

Nengun

I bought Nismo 550cc injectors from Nengun around 6 months ago. They worked out being around $900 delivered which was a hell of a lot cheaper than what I could get them for locally. Trade off was that it took over a month for them to arrive which wasn't a worry for me, but might be a deterent to others. I've also bought from Greenline in the past and have found Jason to be very quick with delivery, although he always seems to charge a little more then Nengun.

Good luck.

I've been advised not to go near hi-flowing the standard injectors as there is no guarantee that the spray patterns etc. will be the same

Better not to take the risk and spend some money on getting proper parts.

Looking good mate, will be interested to see how it all goes when you've got the injectors + ecu..

16:1.. WOOOOHHH.. not good.. you would have had it like that for a while.. hope everything is a-ok internally..

what PSI you gonna run when you finally get it all up and running?

Thats a great result Satanic

What fuel pump are you running? I cant see that on your web page (Nice page by the way)

I'm planning to dyno mine too, before I do I am putting in a bosch040 pump which I'm hoping will arrive this week.

Hi satanic

Did you ask Hitman about injectors he has some contacts for that sort of stuff he might be able to help you, prob be a good price too since ur getting the ecu there, I was the old guy there on Saturtday :-)

Cheers Peter

No such thing as old Peter; only older.... can't wait to see that 32 of yours in action - sounds like it's gonna be a monster ;)

Cheers for the talk as well - very exciting and influential!

I might give Hitman a call regarding getting the whole setup from them!

Thanks for that IanH, I'm a big fan of your site - what got me started on mine :)

Good to know that the injector situation is not limited. As for the AFM, I won't be using one with the new ECU :starwars:

Dyno Graphs going up soon... be prepared for 16:1 A/F ratios :)
