Don't get those timing gates, you need a receiver in everycar, like we use at the track with the racetimes thing. That looks like just a light gate that messures time. It also measures it as you break the light, so as you entered the gate. The motokanas we had to stop first to be timed, don't think you'll get a gate that can do that

If you just want an alternative to writing down times on a sheet of paper.. heres an idea

Have a laptop running apache/php/mysql, with an admin interface where times can be entered/published, then anyone with wifi in the area (on a laptop or pda/phone) could view the public side of it. That should be piss easy to setup, plus would make getting the results much easier than you sitting on the couch for 8 hours typing it in With this you could have multiple people entering times etc...

If you want to automate the recording of the times, then that gets a whole lot harder and more expenisve.
