Interesting mate,

I just had a look at my car and it looks like the bonnet is sunken down by a few mm also.

Could be a contributor. I'm going to try to get a second air feed to the bottom of the snorkel and maybe raise up the bonnet a little.

So you are running with the snorkel and bonnet raised slightly?

Cheers

Old thread.

But I have 247rwkw r33gtst. I have modified the snorkel so that it clears the FMIC that comes over the top. So I cut the snorkel and used some plastic to seal it up. Boost dropped to 0psi above 6000rpm.

I have now hacked the snorkel more (as no longer needs to clear stock intercooler pipe and used 1.5mm sheets of plastic to seal it. Holds a little better now but still poses a restriction above about 6300rpm.

With the snorkel removed runs to 7000rpm no troubles :)

I still want to have some kind of air ducting to prevent hot air feeding the intake. Because of the stock airbox it's hard to bring the air feed from the existing hole where one of the stock intercooler pipe went through.

Anyone got any innovations here?

I have a pod in the garage but I would rather keep it looking as stock as possible while keeping inlet charge cool.

Had the same problem. Fixed it up by cutting a hole on the air box lid. But the real problem was the rubber pipe from airbox to turbo was sucking itself shut beacuse the snorkel was sealing up against the bonnet. A more solid pipe would be the go but the extra hole worked fine.

Yes, running as stock, on outside, just with an apexi panel filter fitted. (Nice dry type not oiled!) factory snorkel etc .... just bonnet popped up on pass side 5mm odd. Oh and as someone mentioned above you do have to make a new intake to the turbo from the box, as stock one will cave in on itself

Have ran a 12.3@ 113mph , 1.9 60' . like this and it was far from being a perfect run Car is Auto sedan too.

So maybe you should just try putting some rubber temporarily over the stock bonnet rubber for a try first,? especially if you have less or similar power levels.

Ps , Dont forget to zip tie down the scoop if you dont have the factory bungs in place, as it might suck itself up to the bonnet ! (i can do a pic if you don't know what im getting at here)

ive got this nismo snokel in my r34 gtr, i think its made of kevlar and might be a good option for those who wanna keep their stock airbox and want a less restrictive snorkel.

Yeah i was looking at adapting the r33 GTR snorkel onto the gtst box as its bigger..... would be nice if there was an off the shelf one available though... something to retain a factory look.

Oh by the way .. probably should start a new thread to help those searching ..... but on the subject of bonnett support rubbers, the ones that screw into the front radiator support, i just tried a N15 pulsar ones tonight and they fit perfect.... so probably easier asking nissan for one of those then chasing an import number, assuming they wern't already clued up.

Or go to the wreckers and save some $$$ :P

Mine was just tuned last night. Stock airbox, Blitz FMIC, full exhaust, HKS GTRS, PFC, 256rwkw on just 16.5 PSI. There was another 3rwkw when using the top half of an airbox that had holes cut in it. Bonnet up I assume (wasn't there for the tuning). Graph in turbo upgrade thread soon.
