kinda off topic, but what I'd really like to see (well more so HEAR) is an RB31 hi compression in NA form using the 6 throttles with trumpets on them, with a hi flowing exhaust.

sure might not make the power of the turbo ones, but it would sound awesome.

even more off topic, anyone got that video clip of the original race GTR which they pulled out for a few laps of some jap circuit that was being renovated or something..

awesom sound...

As for talk about RB30s beign truck engines, its kinda funny. You look at M3s, some of the greatest 6 cylinder engiens gettign aroubnd, you read the reviews of its revvy nature etc...yet ppl seem to think dynamically the RB30 cant rev ????

yes but spend m3 engine $ on an rb30 and the rpm outcome might be impressive. not the same of course because bmw are vv smart, but impressive nonetheless.

Sorry, I wasn’t being very clear with my post. Basically the RB30 has an 86 x 86 bore and stroke. And people say that the long stroke etc amongst other things means it wont rev hard. But you look at the latest M# which is generally considered to be a banshee and revs happily and it has an 87mm bore and 91mm stroke. So it actually has a longer stroke then the RB30 which invariably means higher piston speeds etc etc.

So dynamically there is no reason why an RB30 cant rev hard. Ok, fair enough cams may hurt power up top unless something has been done in this area, but if the rods a re good quality and balanced well,, ditto the pistons, especially with a turbo on the side of the thing it should happily pull good revs.

This talk of balancing etc.. I hear that some guys here are using old 270 000km bottom ends..doesn't sound like they care too much about balancing.

For a street car looking at 240-260rwkw - would you just buy a RB30 bottom end - if the pistons look ok just put new rings on and new big end bearings? Rehone it..

Would you really need to balance? Only plan to rev it to 6500rpm

Just going to be putting a lot of kays up on the car for new job so thinking of building a spare bottom end for if and when it needs a freshen up..

Also what turbo - GCG standard highflow...Would this not choke it up high..?

Sorry to deviate a bit.

yeah i think the hiflow is too small for the rb30det

i think the gt30 is the smallest you can run that wont run out of puff

and even that is still a bit too small, i think the gt30r or gt35r is spot on

would you just use the RB25 to make that kind of power rather than go to all the hassles of building the rb30 and swapping the engine, blue slip with new engine etc?

easy make 260-270 rwkw with std rb25..

personal choice for sure. then again, you might be in an r32 for all i know lol so then i would do it :whoops:

An RB30 with 260rwkw makes alot more torque than a RB25 with 260rwkw, some people swap to the RB30 because of the better drivability, and lots of extra torque.

fair call!

anyone noticed any increase i fuel consumption with the lower powered (220rwkw etc) RB30's V's RB20 or RB25's?

Well I'm also considering the cheaper option...It's only if my motor bombs out..

If I have a 3L bottom end with a freshen up there it is cheaper than an imported RB25 engine.

Anyone have any comments on my questions above? Maybe I should make a new post or something..

Im getting around 10L/100Km atm out of an untuned pfc.

I cant run it up on boost, due to the coil packs wont take it (break down and piung like a bitch)

Its makes hella fuel economy as everyday driving is under 3500 rpm.

hmm thats what i used to get out of the std RB25.. will have to see. looks like there isn't much difference between the rb30 vs rb25 etc..

get a nice tune and that should improve i'd be thinking!

    • I made a little more progress last night and added some E85 safe fuel tank baffle foam in behind the stock cam cover baffle plate.  It still feels really wrong shoving foam inside the engine but apparently its fine based on it pretty much being the MINES/Hi-Octane RB26 cam baffle kit and the few posts here I have found of people doing it and the lack of posts saying the foam broke down and ruined the motor... Still plan to check it frequently though lol The last step for this round of oil control modifications I plan to make is to add some -12AN fittings to the cam covers and connect them to some (already existing luckily) -12AN fittings on the sump. Basically a sudo head drain/sump breather/pressure equaliser without having to remove the motor and do the one on the rear of the head. My plan is to add them to either the tops or the sides of the cam covers at the back. unless there is a compelling reason to have them at the front on the sides which i have seen a few times though they were all on RB26 cam covers from memory so that may be due to the stock breathers being on the back and the integral baffle being different ?
    • from an old insurance company i was with (Budget Direct) I had someone roll back into me at the lights got them to pull over. Got a picture of thier licence with address, had a dash cam video and, thier phone number. But only had 3rd party on the shitbox i was driving. insurance did nothing, cops wouldn't do anything due to the value of the damage (under $3000) so i just had to suck it up and go to U Pull It.
    • Small Update on the Exhaust Situation A 200-cell cat was a bit too expensive for now, so I had the exhaust shop fabricate a new exhaust from the cat to the rear and an exhaust tip. I went this route to avoid cutting into the original exhaust and keep it intact. It’s essentially straight-piped, and the sound is noticeably different. The exhaust tip came with a silencer, so if it gets too loud, I can easily install it to tone things down slightly. Right now, the car bangs and pops like crazy -- which I personally love. In the future, I might add a resonator or a 200-cell cat, as niZmO_Man suggested, but for now, I’m really happy with how it turned out.
    • And that's a massive problem, because deadshits will deadshit and give you false details. At least in these days of mobile cameraphones, it is trivial to take photos of any ID they are carrying at the same time as the 300 photo extensive documentation of the state of the vehicles that I recommend even for minor incidents. And you get photos of the person's face, any visible tatoos, etc etc, while you're at it. Then you try to avoid mentioning that you're fully capable of making explosives of various power levels and will wreck their shit if you are forced to hunt them down.
