Hey all I was just wondering if any of the importers could give a rough price break down on what makes up the total cost of a vehicle

eg I was looking at the following on Jspec

1999 Skyline Coupe GT-RVSpec

engine: 2600

trans: 6 speed manual

milage: 32,000 km's

color: Purple

grade: 4

.. start price 3,100,000 yen

.. SOLD for 3,808,000 yen (car cost only)

.. around $57,900 landed, excluding compliance

I imported my gts-t 2 years ago but can’t remember what the costs break down was.

Car price 3,808,000 yen = $44,251

broker fee is what around $1000

shipping I have no idea ???

customs i have no idea ???

what else is before it even gets to compliancing???

Then for compliance do most places refer to just the compliance plate or do they mean tyres, change of fluids, other misc things + the compliance plate??

Car price 3,808,000 yen

FOB 120 000yen

broker fee is what around $1000

shipping 10 cubic meters to sydney aprox $1200 including port charges etc etc

customs agent around $150 - $200

Import duty 10% (on FOB price + shipping)

GST 10% (on FOB price + shipping and duty)

steam cleaning around $240 in sydney

compliance = no idea for this model. you would need to find out from the complier

add blue slip

stamp duty

green slip

rego

anything else that needs doing

you do the math, that should be a good start.

What beer baron said is correct but allow $2000 for shipping costs ( including all the customs entries, q/t , steamclean and tow to the raw .Compliance for a 34 Gtr is about $4000 + tyres including the blue but if it has any aftermarket parts allow cost for removal and if it needs brakes you must only use Nissan parts and the front pads are about $1000. If it has new aftermarket pads and rotors they must be replaced with Nissan parts .

When converting $ to jpy dont take the published rate , you are never going to get that the banks want to get some money too and i'm a shareholder !!! Ring around to find the going rate but you will find it will be 1-2 yen bellow the published rate ..

There are obviously a lot of things that need to be included but here is a basic breakdown of the costs involved for this specific example:

$44,175 - car cost (3,808,000 yen at around 86.2 yen exchange)

$ 1,160 - FOB fee (100,000 yen @ around 86.2 yen exchange)

$ 1,000 - J-Spec Imports fee

$ 1,800 - estimated shipping cost including port fees, etc.

$ 4,535 - import duty @ 10% of FOB price

$ 5,200 - GST @ 10% of CIF price

$ 45 - luxury car tax (complex calculation!!!)

----------

$57,915 - total landed estimate

On top of this you will need to allow for compliance at around $3,500 plus tyres, although this price will vary a fair bit depending on who you get to do the work for you.

Most compliance workshops will quote compliance including all servicing, etc. but excluding new tyres, brake pads, cat converter and anything else that might be required ... for more exact information you should call around a few workshops personally.

Hey j-spec I noticed one of the cars you guys list has a cheaper FOB then the supplier who actually owns the car has it listed for.

Do you guys get some kind of discount? Or is the listing wrong?

cheers

We do get discounted prices from some suppliers because we buy for our customers fairly often - just one of the many hidden advantages of buying through us :P

Yeah cool.

But then again if I wanted that particular car I would email the supplier and demand the lower FOB, as if they wouldnt do it to make a sale.

:P:(

good for you then buddy. if you want to step on peoples toes go ahead and try it. i would wager a supplier may value their relationship with a valued customer over 1 sale to a lovely fellow like yourself.

it doesnt matter as i can have a stab and guess that you are not actually looking to buy a car anyway. just looking.

Step on toes? lol give me a break.

The supplier sells directly to the public anyway, as do most Australian brokers suppliers.

How is going directly the owner of the car and bargaining, stepping on anyone’s toes?

    • Before I commit to it as I already have the wastegate off the car, would you change it to the 9psi spring instead of the 12, or whack it back on now and try your suggestion?   Edit: Actually I might just swap the spring and see what the logs say after another few pulls, as we know it's still spiking without the Mac valve in the picture so I need more data without the Mac valve trying to combat the issue.
    • Sounds good Hmm suppose the main thing is, how much do you care about this car? The filler doesn't make for a very good water barrier lol. If there was a tiny little bit of rust forming now, that in 3 to 5 years time becomes obvious under the paint (starts to bubble up), would it bother you?
    • I already have the ability to datalog the voltage... what I can't do is correlate it to what the gauge is showing when I'm looking at the data at a later date. Or something like this. Except getting the oil to 125C+ involves me going 200+kmh at the track so you can imagine this is a little tricky unless I do something like note what the voltage is when I am at the top of 5th gear so I have a point to reference on. Drove car today. O2 still reading richer because hopefully not a leak instead of massive restriction I've introduced. Car really doesn't sound like a LS. It's quite strange. Pulled a bit of fuel out up top. This does potentially explain why my spark plugs looked like the car was running pretty over-rich. If I was tuning it to a ~12.7 which in reality was far richer than that in the past. It will be handy to have the dyno WB to compare my WB to to compare notes that's for sure. At this point I'm happy to just sit in the passenger seat and tune the thing given I've got about 7 million hours on the platform lol.
    • Yeah I understand you have to pay for an updated map or subscription service or something. But I can't even find a current map for Australia. My map is dated 2017, but didn't this car version still sell in Australia until 2021?   Also, just as an aside, the navigation system warns you of traffic incidences ahead.....why would they include that on a map they knew is not receiving live information. I am forever going to be warned of an incident that probably existed for 30 minutes 8 years ago.
