hay man just wondering i have an r33 gtst and what do you need befor you take off the rocker covers is there any gaskets or seals you need to replace when you take the covers off and paint cos i want to paint mine the same colour as the car (marone)

prety easy.. i didnt take the fuel rail or any of the stuff on the intake side off..

just loosened it and pushed it to the side so i could get the back bolts undone... once they were loose i used a magnetic stick to pull them out, exhaust side is easy

so what went wrong?

I'm going to do mine next week, any advice???

I have bought some primer but havent choosen the paint yet! I can't settle on a colour....

they might just go back on black!!! hmmmm

toss up between Nur gold and R34 metalic red....

so any tips would be great!!!

make sure you clean the surface with metho or something that doesnt leave any resedue.. like electrical contact cleaner.

again clean the surface after primer before you paint.. sand the primer back and apply more primer till its heaps smooth.. then wet and dry it, then clean n paint

Mark,

I think the plenum is a wayyyyy to hard a job! I simply masked it up in place and found a similar black spray to touch up the few chips I had in the original paint... and it turned out good!

as for the cam covers! I am getting pissed with it, as the surface just isnt coming up all that flash!

I am about to give in, and go get the crinkle finish paint (like the red cover on the S1 R34 GTR above) and go with that, as it hides the imperfections far better!!!

and what he was talking about was the plastic fuel wiring loom cover (allen key) undo and push it away...

I also found the twin turbo pipe had to come off too...

if this doesnt work, I will admit failure and get a professional to do it in the future!

grrrr

Hrmmmm. Cheers Ben. Mine has pretty much lost all the paint (bizarre for a *genuine* 70,000km car :) ) so it'll have to come off, because I'm going to bake the parts to cure the paint.

I shall see how I go.... (famous last words....) :)

Drew was it fairly easy to remove the plenum? Or is that what you were talking about when you said just loosen everything?

i dont think taking the plenum off just to paint it is worth the blood sweat and tears.

i just did mine because i have the enging out

And Sean some of that painting you've done looks very intricate! Did you freehand or mask? Parts like around "Nissan" and RB26 look very nice!

Cheers. I did it free hand with a fine brush and model paint.
