Would some one please shed a little light on the following.

I would like to know wether a 4" exhaust is going to flow that much more than a 3.5" .

Will it make a lot of differance on a high hp ( 900 ) engine.

What size do most of the high HP GTR run ?

I would like to be able to work out the flow rate some how.

i would imagine it would make a massive difference.

the less backpresure on the turbine housing the better usually

i think the racepace rb30 gtr has a 4" dump into a twin 3" system. it was in one of the magazines, speed im pretty sure

i guess the ideal way to find it would be to run it on the dyno with the exhaust attached then do another run with it deattached and see the difference, may highlight if its a restriction or not

4" ? Crikey, how do you go with tucking that up the belly of the car? If you need the exhaust flow, then surely its easier to package twins on the underside of the car rather then a biog single???

No it won't make much difference, 3.25" is the tested optimum max size with a GT3040 turbo, so 3.5" should be enough. Sorry I can't remember who tested it.

edit - argh still getting used to the controls of the new forum, lost most of my typing...here goes again.

I like that dual exhaust set up, you should be able to make the car quieter while also getting even better flow characteristics setting it up so that the exhaust tips are smaller but still meet the 3.5" total size. Multiple smaller exhaust tips should create a lower pressure differential and assist flow.

I like this idea, so now I wonder where I can get dual exhaust system from in Sydney? Is there a brand name option for this or is it all custom?

The noise on my car is perfect lower tone (same tone all through rev range, just volume change) but a bit loud on low throttle ie. off boost,

I'm thinking of installing an exhaust valve controller (EVC).

Should I get tuner to set it with the computer to automatically open and close proportionate to the THROTTLE or BOOST or RPM ???

(Anyone have advice on whats best?).

Umm, sorry to say but a GT30 is only around the 300rwkw mark.

This is hardly what is being asked here.

What was asked was a 900HP setup, well over 500rwkw

So the above statement has nothing to do with this thread.

Bigger is always better. I cant see how 3.25 was "optimum" as the less backpressure the better. 3.25 would have been the minimum requirement

Apexi make a dual cat back system.

Ive got a custom catback -2x2.5" pipes to 2x 3" mufflers. It works out to about the same as a 3 and 3/4" single pipe.

It is quieter, and doesnt drone.

A 3" should be good to 300rwkw, a 3.5" to 350+ but over that id want to flow at least a 4" (or split 3") system.

Not speaking from any experience here from owning a hi hp car,but,i have been swapping from stock to aftermarket exhausts of late and the power difference is very noticeable.

Even when there is just a silencer in the end of the sporty it takes away all of the fun in owning a sports zorst.because there is that initial surge of power for a split second and then it's like it just returns back to normal power levels.

Id personally go for the biggest zorst u can fit.Especially if you are using it mainly for track duties.:P

what size did you have for your 369rwkw run ash?

Oh, and for the RB26, im going twin 2.75" (or there abouts) off the GT-SS/trust split dumps, aiming for 300-320rwkw.

As Bl4cK32 said... you can get it quieter and less drone... hence why im now going twin... noise is only good for so long

All intertesting in put fellas , but would like to see / hear of some solid evidence of flow characterisics,eg what volume at X pressure will y Dia flow etc?

Bigger isnt always better, its just better than smaller. Going to big adds weight. Fact is in Australia, we chuck 3" on everything from 600hp GTRs or XR6s to 200hp CA18s. It works but for example, the CA18 could make exactly the same power as with a 2.5" exhaust unless youre chasing more than 450hp at the engine. Even most street WRXs are fine with 2.5" exhausts and make no more power with 3" exhausts. All this is within reason and notice I said "most" and "street". Exceptions always exist.

Turbos operate best with no exhaust backpressure (Quote Bell's book) so you can see where the fact bigger is better comes in, but remember there will be a point at which bigger is going to yield no more flow and just add more weight.

Also, surface area is no good for comparison, you need to use pipe volume with respects to resistance, pressure etc which is a fluid dynamics formula. Quite simple really, so dont stress. Look it up on the net >_<

    • Howdy friends, So another weird one today, I was looking into replacing some broken clips holding the front grille for the R32 GTR (part number 01553-03831), and noticed the brackets which are supposed to hold the grille in place were also missing 😑. I do recall seeing this issue many years ago, but didn't fix it at the time. A quick look on eBay and I was able to find the genuine brackets, along with all the screws which suited the headlights (part numbers 26042-08U05,26092-08U05). Happy days!....  Once they arrived however there was an extra nut in the packaging which implied that there should also be a bolt or a stud, and sure enough, after a bit of searching I found this thread from 2013, and @Ants clearly shows a stud should be present. Reading around a bit more, it's possible the headlights on my car are the "povo pack" headlights as mentioned by @funkymonkey in this thread way back in 2008. This could explain why the studs are missing on my set of headlights. Looking at the headlight diagram I wasn't able to see a suitable part number for the stud itself. The headlight did indeed have a recess that looked like it would accept a stud, but interestingly no thread or anything obvious how the stud would be affixed to the headlight, I suspect it may have been glued in, press fit, or melted into the plastic at the factory. Another member may be able to clarify if they happen to have a genuine set of N1 headlamps. The only thing we have to work with within the recess is a keyway which likely is there to prevent the stud from rotating within the recess. In any case, back to 3D printing, I put together a model which acts like a pug with a friction fit inside this recess, making use of the keyway so it doesn't rotate while tightening a bolt. Printing in TPU will allow it to slightly swell making a nice snug fit without cracking the part. I've designed the adaptor it to accept an 20 mm M6 bolt (stainless with a cap head in my case), as opposed to the standard M5 stud and I made use of the standard galvanised split washer that came with the genuine brackets from Nissan. Once the bolt and screws were all in place, giving the bracket a gentle shake gave the classic "shaking the car" feeling, very solid, which gives me confidence this is going to be able to hold on much better than the janky solution which seems to have been here for the past decade or so. Overall I'm really pleased with how this turned out and maybe there are more people out there running these headlights without a centre stud at all!     • Hey everyone, This is my first post apart of the introduction. I tried searching a bit on the forum but couldn't really get a straight answer. I got the car to my mechanic as I felt it being weak. It seems that it was missing on two cylinders due to the injectors. I had all my injectors clean and the car runs much better. The mechanic also confirmed my suspicions that the cat is clogged and needs to be tackled asap. The cat rattles a bit and the hot exhaust warning frequently lights up when driving after getting the injectors clean. In my introduction I was asked about what modification I might be interested in and mentioned a cat delete. From what I was told, this is not really beneficial on the RB20DE and there are more cons than pros.  Could perhaps anyone give some suggestions on what the best course of action would be since the current cat is toast and needs to be removed/replaced anyway? I can also sometimes smell a strong smell of fuel, but I'm not sure if this is related.

    • When I was replacing my pump due to being stranded in the wrong state, I went with the Deatschwerks 320lph kit. It is a direct plug in to the stock wires, harness, everything.
