BOV Ajustment

Recommended Posts

Guest RedLineGTR

I have a hybrid BOV on a skyline r33 gtst it vents to Atmosphere and Plumback, the question is that when the spring is adjusted so it not tight lets say 3 or so turns from loose, when the turbo starts making boost at 2500 it makes a flutter noise and when higher than 3000 it's normal whoosh sound, when adjusted tighter at 2500 doesn't make that much noise maybe a little whoosh and a 3000+ normal whoosh..Is it okay to leave it softish or is it better to leave it abit tighter. The tighter it is, will it make the BOV shut faster??

Thanks

The flutter ive been told is a bit of pressure hitting the turbo impellers when theres not enough air velocity for it to come rushing out of the bov in a hurry (eg over 3000). Obviously the pressure on the impellers is what the bov is meant to be preventing, however ive also been told at a low RPM its of little consequence.

I have a TurboXs BOV that has the same behaviour.

It should be fine, I run a TurboXS BOV on my R33 gtst and the it does the job really well high up in the revs and the compressor flutter low in the revs should not damage the turbo. This is simply because there is not enough boost and it cannot expel the minimal amount of air via the BOV.
