Thanks Chapman. Very soon hopefully! The turbo arrived in OZ the other day and everything should be ready to begin work in about a week - fingers crossed. There's a bit to do - new manifold, inlet piping, 'flashy' oil/water lines and fittings, exhaust mods, heatshield and then extra time if the turbo combo' need to be modified. And then once it's all good it has to come off again to be ceramic coated.

Hi Matt, nice stuff there mate! By the way, which turbo did you end up getting?

Love your work Will :P And the results?

A little girl hey? That's awesome Erica! I'm guessing Mum is happy about that one :) I would've dropped in to say hi to John if I wasn't already running late.

Thanks Joolz.

Thanks Lach'. I'm going with a custom Turbonetics turbo and custom manifold.

The turbo arrived from the US just recently - I got to have a look at it yesterday. If you've got a picture capable mobile mate I'll send you some camera phone pics I took of it (will get some dig' camera shots and post 'em up next week).

I'll confirm the turbo's exact spec's once all the testing is completed. The aim is to get low/mid 300s with best possible response - so some chopping and changing 'may' be needed. I was a bit surprised when I had a look at it, it's a tad bigger than I was expecting! It's not huge though.

And as you'd expect from me... I like the fact that Turbonetics turbos come with a nice polished compressor cover

Oh yeah... it's internal wastegate :)

Poor quality pic. But it gives some idea... the 20c piece is sitting well above the comp' wheel so it makes the wheel look smaller than it actually is:

Here's the exhaust housing:

This may or may not be the final choice. The options are T3 0.63 or 0.82 - both internal gate. Each option can be had in 5 stages (I, II, III, IV and V) - increasing in size/power.

The T3 0.63 stage V is very VERY conseratively rated at 500-550hp. Just recently my Turbonetics contact fitted a 33 RB25DET with a 350hp rated Turbonetics turbo. It made 250rwkw (not sure what boost level).

Should be interesting.

Looks very nice, but that's what i expect from you:)

Is that a turbonetics 60/1?

Looks like babys are popping out left, right and central this yr

When are your tyres going to be bald matt:), i need some 275/40/17's to see if i can jam

them under this 31 or i will probally mini tub it:)

cheers

You know me well Darren - the parts have to perform, AND look the goods haha.

Yep, nicely spotted mate. 60-1 comp'. Hopefully this combo' will do the job as is. But if not then we'll just have mix and match exhaust housing options.

They sure are! A close family member and a work mate have both had new arrivals this year.

The Nittos have got a little bit of life left in them yet mate. Post upgrade that may change :D Once I've figured out a replacement for them I'll let you know. You need them more than I do!

I care :D Wow! That's an awesome result Will. And very recent too I see. I can see why you're keen on getting a run at AIR :P Weekend trip to Vic mate?

Chapman, the cams are HKS 256 (8.8) inlet and 264 (9.0) exhaust.

It is just hard to find bald 275/40/17, they aren't at your local

tyre shop and don't come in retreads:)

Whats the booby prize for guessing the turbs:),

Anglela is due on aug 2nd aswell , so big year:)

Cammed ls1's are killer:), that would be quick on the street

cheers

Another pic:

Mate that's a nice size. That exhaust housing is the same as mine and look at the size difference in the exhaust wheel going by what HASN'T been machined out of my housing:

Look forward to the results.

No you don't see to many 275/40/17's on the second hand market. I got the Nittos off Keir Wilson, so maybe try the Willall guys. They might have some used BFG Drag Radials.

Congratulations to you and Anglela on the bubs to be! Big year indeed mate!

And the booby prize is... one months worth of sleepless nights - beginning in early August :geek: Just kidding mate.

Cammed + auto with converter = awesome off the line.

Thanks for posting the picture Lach - love your work! It certainly illustrates the size difference hey mate?

Looks like it could be a bit on the 'laggy' side by comparision to yours - if size is any indicator. Notice the difference in turbine blade design? Your exh' wheel has curved blades whereas the Turbonetics exhaust wheel blades are straight.

Edit: Oh and I also notice that your wastegate port has been machined out! Hmmm... might be an issue for mine too!?

I can't wait to see how this turbo (with manifold to suit) is going to perform.

  • 2 months later...

Thought I'd drag this tread back from the dead, as I've been doing a bit more research and parts procurement lately. Still haven't competed the upgrade yet - soon hopefully.

It turns out I jumped to conclusion about the new turbo, it's actually a ceramic ball-bearing T62-1/T3 0.63 Stage V (try saying that three times as fast as you can!). So what I assumed was a 60-1 is actually a 62-1.

The T62-1 compressor outflows the T60-1 by 10%.

Compressors:

T62-1

Inducer: 2.441 Major: 3.00 Inlet: 4.00

T60-1

Inducer: 2.324

Turbine:

T3 0.63 Stage V

Exducer: 2.437 Major Dia': 2.795

I probably should do a thread in the Forced Induction section, however, I'll start by asking here; has anyone or does anyone know someone that has fitted a Plazmaman RB25DET plenum to their GTS25t? I'll be happy enough if I don't lose power (as the plenum is almost worth it on appearance and ease of plug changes alone) but it would interesting to see if the plenum does actually 'work'.

Clint, if you read this, that's some nice head porting mate! James has some skills!
