I've put my AVCR in the same place as mr crust, but not quite as neat (the cable isn't tucked into the ash tray). I've got it stuck on with heavy duty velcro so I can take it off and hide it under the floor mat if I'm parked somewhere dodgy (like a shopping center :) ) I just have to remember not to step on it when I get back in the car!

A friend of mine mounted it in front of cluster, but it sort of blocks most of the thing.. I know the RSM will show the speed etc etc.. but for some reason i dont like it..

But yea, anyone got a pic of it mounted on dash, middle-above air con??

WOnt get the RSM till thursday, so in the mean time, would just like to see where you all have mounted it..

thanks all..

Logical spot end of centre console under radio etc. I'd watch out on dash mounting a lot of heat there when parking during the day. The dash mounting looks a bit tacky.post-25792-1142508570.jpg

gotta agree the dash looks the best, however for security reasons its not the best place.. my mate had his windscreen smashed and his nice big blue apexi unit ripped out.. they didnt get anything else, just the apexi..

Keep this in mind if you park in dark carparks at night time for long periods..

I guess, no matter where you mount it, somone will always smash the window, and steal it..

But now this has got me thinking, if someone wants to pull it out, how is it possible?? Otherwise they would snap the cables somehow..

I will try and post a pic up..

4door32-- try some sponsers who sell them.. BUt you wont be able to get same price as i told you on pms.. But atleast it will be brand new lol.. gd luck..

Hey Wink - who did you SAFC install, it looks HAWT :)

Anyways, I haven't got an RSM (need one though) but I've got the SAFC2 in my R34. Below is a few pics of where I put it in relation to my centre console.

As you can see it's not a perfect fit in the R34 ashtray area but the angle that I've put it on is perfect for my line of sight while driving (it's pointed towards the driver). Also, there is absolutely no interference from sunlight/glare as it's all the way down the bottom.

Another thing is that the face of my SAFC2 is black (D1 Limited Edition) so at night time, it doesn't look like there is anything special there at all  Security benefit!

Need installation advice / tips / faq, click below:

I was thinkin of that spot as well satanic, but then thought, it wouldnt be safe lookin down each time, and quickly lookin back up.. as compared to have it straight in front of you(cluster area)..

But either way, everyone likes to have it in different places..

Looks like a few ppl are keen on buyin a rsm.. why not make a group buy someone??

Well my only reason for the RSM is to remove that speed cut of 180kmh from the car... I don't need any other function of the RSM (maybe the G-sensor for wank factor)

$250 is what RSMs go for second hand... $80 is what the Pivot Speed Meter goes for - same thing, less rice. Maybe I'll just opt for that, though having another "computer" in the car is cool :D

Ahh so the rsm does remove the speed cut...

or does it just display the speed, above whateva speeds u doin of 180.. while the normal guage will just sit at 180??

heheh well i got it an excellent price if u say if they go for 250.. thanks mr_g.. heheh..

I mounted mine just under the aircon unit, in a empty fold down single din pocket i got for like $30-$35(off another forum member, they came off the x-trial i think hence the colour) i can't remember, its no longer fold down because i broke it hahah so i put velcro to hold the cover on instead.

mine is for the avc-r, but same size as rsm/safc.

Wow thats hi-tech man..

so the rsm hides in the pocket??

Man i wouldnt mind havin that for my boost controller..

can you post pics, of it half way in, half way out.. any more brighter pics man..

thats a really good idea.. i like it..

Its actually my Boost controller (AVC-R) not RSM,

i just use it to check the peak boost/speed/rev i just hit, and change my low-high boost settings.

unfortunately thats how it sits (a little in) had to modify the pocket(cut a hole in the top of it) for the avc-r to fit.

its actually better now with the flap broken because when it was attached(working) when its open its still there only folded down.

MAIN objective was to keep it visable and hide it when i park my car in the carparks. inside of having it infront of the ash tray.

Would anyone have instruction manual for the rsm??

Cant find it on net, nor does the apexi website contain one.. There was a link to it, but says, error link moved or something..

Found a manual for some older version of rsm i think..

so anyways if someone could please send it to me, it would be greatful!!

cheers..

But now this has got me thinking, if someone wants to pull it out, how is it possible?? Otherwise they would snap the cables somehow..

It is possible to remove an AVCR with out snapping the cable. The cable coming off the back of the AVCR plugs into another cable that comes from the harness, solenoid and pressure sensor. The manual instructs you to push this connection though the firewall of the car so someone could just unplug this and take your AVCR. I guess if you didn't feed this plug through the firewall it would be a lot harder to nick it.

I don't know if this applies to RSM's however.

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
