Hey everyone, just a quick question regarding the aerial adjustment switch in R33's. My car is a 12/93 GTST and i dont have an adjustment switch, but a mate of mines does. is there wiring under the dash or was this an optional feature?? im not concerned about it but it would be nice to not have a 3 foot long radio aerial.

thanks, Chegs BC1012

All factory wiring I've seen in Skylines only support a fully automatic antenna. (ie. fully up or fully down (not fully sic... sorry, couldn't help myself...))

You could:

a) put a relay system in there that allows the antenna to stay at half mast

b) alter the mast itself so it doesn't go up as far

c) install a secondary window strip antenna (or similar hidden antenna) so the other one can stay down

d) replace it for an aftermarket semi-automatic antenna that does have the switch

However: masts should be a certain length to pick up the wavelength required here (ie. 88-108MHz). Can't remember whether a compromise was made for the antennas to suit AM & FM - theoretically a shorter antenna would pick up FM ok, but not AM (can check with our resident techs if you need...)

cooks44: My series 2 has a button for "fully up" or "half up" when the radio is on.

Fantastic for me.. my commodore had up/down buttons that let me put it any height I wanted, but it's much simpler to leave it on "half up" and never have to touch it again. =-]

Dunno about the wiring dude... Usually variants of one model car will have harnesses... My Berlina had harnesses and plugs for Calais foglights. Cheaper to have one harness for all variants.

As for series 1 and 2 (in the commodore world, it'd be VN/VP or VR/VS). If series 1's never had that button, you wouldn't have the wiring and plug sitting behind the dash panel.
