Hi All !!

This is my first post as I recently bought a 1997 R33 GTST. I bought the car from NSW and was wondering which of the following parts (which are on my car) will be placed next to a big fat Cross when i try to pass it in the ACT?

I Have:

PARTS LIST REMOVED (No you dont get my Part List MR RTA!!!)

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

JD

Hey thought id let you know they would fail you on the blow off valve, pod filter if its not secured, exhaust if its too loud, turbo timer, and your wheels the rear tyres can not be wider than the front and the window tint. went through it all on mine not long ago.

good luck with it, semo

Taking a guess and baseing it off what I had to do when I changed my rego over:

17" Rims and tyres will be right as long as there is enough tread on them.

Strut Brace, boost gauge, turbo timer and bodykit should all be fine.

Not sure on the current regulations are with exposed pods, mine passed fine.

I'm faily sure BOV will have to be plumback to pass rego.

Exhaust will pass as long as it isn't over the legal dB limit and if it isn't too low to the ground.

If tint is less than 35% it will probably have to come off, if they notice it.

Hope that helps.

I went through the same thing as you a few months back.

I got it passed at a local servo, but less then a month later i got a nice letter in the mail from the RTA informing me i have been "randomly" chosen for a "quality assurance" test, and that i MUST take my car to dickson within 2 weeks or have my rego canceled, or cop a $2k fine.

Random my ass.

So good luck to you even if you do get a dodgy pass, just be looking out for the letter in the mail if your unlucky!

yeah ok thanks guys! .. i have a mitigation plan to put stock stuff back on if i get done... the only thing is the hastle (as all of you prolly know) .. the dealer i bought the car from in sydney was awesome and said that what ever i got done for he would put on stock to help me pass, then i put back on my mods.. only problem is the pain in the ass stuffing around to go up and back twice again to sydney...

yeah my exhaust sits (at the lowest point) 60mm off the ground so i think that will get hammered. however its only cat back so shouldnt be too much stuffing around..

thanks for all the info guys..

I'm in the process of getting my GTR registered from NSW to ACT-3rd time lucky-no! The second set of wheels they have picked up again a tiny crack in the rim-fix that & I'm through(hopefully)

things that were a problem:

1. clearance with exhaust-modified for height but still too low(its 100mm min with 4 people in it!)-suspension has been raised so it passed that but looks like a 4wd jacked up.

2. Child restraints-need these and the parcel shelf

3. sealed battery in boot (33) that says "sealed battery"

4. exhaust too loud-I changed the rear muffler to a quite one-passed the DB test

5. wheels-have to be as per door plague-my 18x10 were no good-3 of Jays 17x9 have passed with #4's hairline crack being repaired.

6. Things that passed: HKS airfilters, BOV (although factory), altered suspension aprt from height

My experience was that it had to go through Dickson to get the ID check anyway and in the words of the inspectors "there are always tough on these sorts of cars"!

Good luck :)

hey rumble why did you have to get an ID check? was it because it was a fresh import? And did you first try a local garage and then they told you to go to Dickson?

Cheers Mate.

When I transferred my rego from NSW to ACT it had to go through Dick(head)son for an ID check because it was bought privately interstate. If I had already owned the car in NSW I think I could have taken it anywhere for the inspection.

PS - this 2 x JD thing is going to get confusing :P

haha sorry boys, didnt know there was another jd out there  ... hey jd_r33, was the condition on goin to dickson purely because it was a private car you purchased? cause i heard that if your import car is less than 10 years old you may have to go there too ?? what year is your car?.. im also buying mine off a dealer, was just wondering if i could possibly get away with it...

i will post an avatar pic of my car when i pick it up.. so i can be refered to as white jd  ..

but until then...

peace out dudes..

Hey White JD

This should answer your questions:

http://www.rego.act.gov.au/registrations/r...cleidentity.htm

And if in doubt, just ring them - they really are lovely people and want nothing more than to ensure that you can do whatever mods you like to your car

    • Yeh... literally every time i jump on a forum, see an instagram post or see an engine bay at a car show, i get an idea and add it to my 'to do' list. So what started off as, hey can u just make a couple of intake hard pipes because my dumbass bought the wrong apexi kit, blew out into a 2 week job including braided brake lines & custom bash kit for the front lip haha.  Getting Luke from A4E engineering to make a full custom exhaust with a controllable aes dump valve so i can actually switch between quiet and loud, because right now its just loud all day every day. Then after that go and get the tune redone flex e85 & 98 as i get bugger all milage from e85, makes going for longer drivers difficult
    • Car looks clean as. You ended up getting quite a bit done 馃槀  So what's the plan for the exhaust?
    • The only Neo rods that were any different to any other RB25 rods were the DET ones, and they were the same as RB26. Here is a Neo DET rod. O5U part number visible. Here is a post in a thread here on SAU with evidence from someone who has done this before. There are photos in the thread of normal RB25 rods.
    • Sure, but why assume that will be the case forever? And why assume you'll be able to do an oil change to swap back to a stock drain bolt before that happens? And does it even matter when I change the oil at fairly short intervals? Life can be funny sometimes and unexpected things can happen. Like breaking a collarbone so you can't do any work on your car for a few months but the oil change is due so you have to take it to somewhere and hope they don't do something stupid like stacking the new drain plug washer on top of the old one.
    • Do u know how to identify the rods are rb25 or neo ones? Can u look into the pics and tell me is they de or de neo ones. Its confusing becoz my motor has de neo head but block is 25de 75t, so really confusing me about rods, crank.
