i have HR-31 with a 34 GTT box in it. so i think same story with r32s.

i bought the R32 GTR pinion assambly and cog. found out today i also need some clips and other bits, as i was really interested to know how the assembly is not meant to fall out of the box, and how the cog is not meant to fall in.

the assembly and cog from nissan is $130, and the other bits and pieces to hold it all together is another $10, which i have to wait on.

will post up in couple days how it goes.

here's the story for the HR31 - i'd assume it same for the 32.

you need:

- R32 GTR Pinion Assembly (32707)

- R32 GTR Cog (32703)

- Pin to hold Cog in the assembly (32712)

- Washer thing to hold the assembly to the box (32718)

all up cost me $140 even for everything, but my speedo is SPOT on.

you take out the old one, put the cog throught the housing and hammer in the pin in the side so the cog doesn't fall out, oil up the housing and the gearbox case where it slides in, using a rubber hammer, bash it in till the groove sits flush with the box, (there is also a mark at the top of the pinion housing, have this point dead vertical) put the washer thing in (you'll know what i mean), tighten it all up so it doesn't go anywhere, slap on your speedo cable, and take for a test drive.

Chris.

edit - well scrap that idea. got 160kms out of it and the gear wore away - teeth are cut the wrong way. didn't pay too much attention just slapped it in and bang.

how about rb25 in a silvia with R32 diff. what do I do wit the speedo?

plug it in.

s13 is electronic speedo, r33 is the same. You'll probably have to lengthen the wires in the loom to suit as the s13 drive has a flying loom off it and r33 doesn't.

erghhhh..

I have a problem much the same.

I was sold an R31 import turbo gearbox and fitted it to my R32. the speedo drive on the r31 looks exactly the same as the R32 except they have different size cogs and the screw thread that holds the speedo on the r31 sender is busted.

the r31 cog is smaller than the r32. a performance place told me i can just put the r32 one in there and it will work. bit the cog is bigger.

also how much oil will i loose if i take the speedo sender out? i just filled the box with $130 oil and i would prefer not to loose it.

Cheers

looks to be the right length just gotta order a 33 cog for it anyone got the part number?

bump thread

i just bought the same speedo drive with the intention of swapping cogs. but how the hell do you get the cog off the navara one???

i told u guys its not hard just order the 21 tooth one from nissan thats what i did 2 years ago no problems with the cog falling off etc and 100 % accurate

this is the part number

32702-02G21

tried ordering 21 tooth from nissan and was told it was going to be quite a wait from japan. and/ord they didnt have it in stock, so i gave up on that idea.

as for getting the cog off... i ended up firing the oxy up at work and melting the bastard off... worked perfectly

i did this conversion a while ago for my r32.. i had great succcess with the speedo for about 6 months but yesterday it has failed!!!

i had a navara pinion assembly with the cog off the r33 but when i first put it on the cog cracked and has now fallen off 6 months later!! you need to make sure that you cut a new slot on the oposite side of the other for the locator, otherwise the cog sits too close and will grind away...

i went down to nissan today to try and get a new r33 cog but they dont make them anymore.. not even the whole pinion assembly!! so i have no idea what to do now which is really anoying becuse r32s have speed sensitve steering so now my steering has gone real hard.. anyone know where u could source cogs from??

oh and you cant use gtr cogs because they go inthe oposite direction and will just get hacked up anyway..

hey mate

yeah i got mine all sorted... tad paranoid about the cog falling off as if it does i have no idea how i'll get it out again! or if it will do internal damage to the box.

but anyway the navara drive has a longer internal shaft, if you sit the cog on this shaft it will be longer over all then the R33 drive, so i cut off 5mm of the navara shaft, ground a half moon end on the shaft for the cog to sit on also. and the over all length was exactally the same as the R33 unit. so in theory it does not need the extra cut on the other side for the locater. I ended up using a m6 bolt and a round washed to locate the drive via its slot. its a tight fit in the box anyway so i dont see it falling out.

Only other drama ive had is the cable is doing a tight U turn now to meet up with the sender... so the speedo needle gets the shakes at lower speeds.

nah it will definately fail!!! because you are using a 20 tooth cog now rather than the 17 tooth cog the cog is fatter.. if you look at the shaft of the pinion assembly the shaft is slightly off center thats why you have to rotate it 180 degrees otherwise the cog will be sitting too hard agianst the thing that drives it and grind away!!! i bassically have the same thread going that i started ages ago that is the same as this.. it explains it a bit better in there....

ok just wait a couple of months and your speedo will stop working and when u pull the drive out to cheak it you see that all the teeth have ground away...

grab your r33 drive and the navara drive and put them side by side and if u really look hard enough you can see... or get them side by side so they are facing exactly the same way and you will see the locator is on the oposite side of the assembly... i swear i speak the truth.. it happened to me!!!!! and now i cant find a new r33 cog

I dont know about you guys but this is the info i have and what im going to try.

remove cog from r33 gtst unit and put on r32 gtst unit. Put r32 unit into r33 gearbox.

Ill let u know how it works out :D

    • Hey, guys, I’m hoping I can find answer here. I have already done some searching and asking around but still nothing.    I fitted an IC7 dash in my R32 GTR, and I got everything displaying on the dash except my high beams. I get input voltage and the high beams displaying in the dash when I pull the lever, but not when I fully engage the high beams. I spliced into the Red/Blue Beam+ wire in the black center connector from the cluster, but there is also a black Beam wire I think I need to use as well. The high beams still work. It’s just a matter of getting it to display on the dash.    Has anyone fully wired in their IC7 properly ? I would appreciate any guidance on this.    IMG_8835.mov
    • I buy my wheel cleaner in 4 litre bottles now. Euro brakes are brutal
    • Sounds like it may all just be some baseless outrage stoked by the carexplore guy? As in the linked social media outrage on facebook just goes back to carexplore as a source again. Further shown by the council response that nothing actually has changed: "The Private Land Use Permit has been part of the Casey Community Local Law for a number of years. It's important to clarify that this permit is not new, and no changes have been made to the permit or the Local Law in relation to the permit." The full council response in Prank's link sounds reasonable to me. Saying that as someone who neither lives there nor has a front yard to call their own
    • Clutch hydraulics are also all good, looks like a brand new slave cylinder and everything bled up well. No idea what the actual clutch is, and I don't intend to pull the box off on the floor to find out, so unless we have trouble on the dyno or at shakedown that will remain a mystery for the new owner
    • Front brakes are G4 8 pot calipers over 330mm discs with braided lines. Everything looks good, pretty sure these are off my old 350. Pads are brand new and judging from gold colour are Winmax which is what I also run on my race car, Neil and I both sourced brake stuff from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney who really knows his stuff Everything has bled up nicely with all new Motul RBF600 fluid, there were 2 loose hard line connections and the calipers were new on the car so I ended up doing it 3 times but it is perfect now
