I thought improved production rules stated that you can use any engine as long as the maker of the engine was the same as the maker of the car.

so it eligable?

No an R32 GTST is not eligible for IPRA.

The only grey imports legal for IPRA ar e R32 GTR and S13 Silvia.

To be eligible for IPRA, a car must be either:

1) Group A homologated

2) commercially available to the public in asutralia as new cars through a manufacturer's dealer network, or

3) otherwise recognised by CAMS...for group 3J

S13 silvia is the only grey import recognised by CAMS for IPRA http://www.cams.com.au/bulletins/B06-019%2...%20Vehicles.pdf. So an S13 chassis is allowed, but only with S13 silvia body. And only with CA18 and SR20 engines that were available in that model. Not permitted to run a 6cyl engine in that chassis, as the block must have the same number of cylinders/rotors as standard, and the same configuration of cylinders as the standard car (ie in-line, horizontally opposed).

S14 and S15 are eligible as they were sold here.

R32 GTST is not eligible. R32 GTR is group A homologated, and therefore OK.

No R33 or R34 is eliglible.

only allowed to use engines from eligible vehicles, so RB20 and RB25 variants are not allowed. No eligible vehicle had them. RB30 is OK, and cyl heads on approved blocks are free for early model vehicles. If you use a non-standard head or block in a late model vehicle, you must comply to minimum racing weights- ie 1602-2000cc (non turbo) 1045kg. turbo 1.8 or 2L 4cyl = 3001-4000cc 1285kg, but they must have the same number of cyl in the same config as the standard car- eg in-line 4cyl can only be replaced by another inline 4cyl engine from the same manufacturer.

1.4 Automobile make and model: Vehicles manufactured by the same company but under a different brand name are considered to be the same make, eg, Nissan/Datsun, Mazda/Eunos, Toyota/Lexus etc. Any component fitted to a production vehicle will be regarded as belonging to that manufacturer of that vehicle irrespective of the actual source of manufacture. Manufacturers are not considered to be the same solely by virtue of having a common parent or holding company. Model refers to a member of the same family of vehicle as produced by the manufacturer.
I've always interpreted this as "if the GTR is eligible, then so is the GTSt", as it is the same model as a GTR, ie R32, but a different spec. Although I could be misinterpreting it.

that's simply a definition of make and model, and you interpretation is correct, but that sentence does not make any make or model of vehicle eligible. You need to read the section on eligible vehicles. Eligibilty is granted on a per vehicle basis, not on a model family basis.

All models of Touring Cars with DOTAR's import approval are elligible for Improved Production. They are commercially available in Australia. To have you model included you just apply in writing to your State's elligibily officer. The list is updated continuously.

:whistling: Cheers :stupid:

PS; An R32GTST ran in the Improved Production Nationals last time they were in Tasmania, where they are again in 2006.

from my previous post, which is directly out of the 3J regs in the CAMS manual:

2) commercially available to the public in australia as new cars through a manufacturer's dealer network

DOTARs doesn't count. You must be mistaken about seeing one compete at the nationals in Tas. Or maybe they didn't get a full grid and invited other categories to make up numbers?

the list of specially approved models is

1. Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg (to cater for ex Mirage Cup cars)

2. Nissan Silvia S13 (turbo and naturally aspirated)

that's it

    • All I can say Duncan is good luck and I hope that Neil did not run any E85 in Cheryl. I have recently experienced the full spectrum of fuel tank issues in my R33's that had been caused by E85 and contaminated fuel. When you take the cover off the top of the tank and have a look inside you will get an understanding of how easy it will be. Best case situation is clean fuel with minimal contamination. My GTR was like this and it was a very simple operation to just grab the fuel pump carrier bracket and slide it up and out of the tank. My three GTS_T's had different levels of fuel contamination that was probably caused by E85 in the fuel.  In the worst case all of the metal components in the tank had rusted to the point where there were pieces of rusted metal swirling around in the tank. This required the removal of the exhaust, the tailshaft, the complete rear cradle and the fuel tank. The components in the tank were that rusted that it took days to get the fuel pump carrier and the mounting brackets out of the tank. When the tank was finally cleaned, everything inside the tank had to be replaced. With the tank all back together I could then reinstall it in the car along with everything else that had to come out. Good luck and I hope that you find a clean tank.
    • It is a two door. It is black and also still has the OEM wheels and stereo. Exact model would be KR_R32RGFEL_SS According to GTR-Registry.com is a 2 Door Coupe; RB20DE; 2WD no HICAS; MT.F5; (11L) Projector Headlamps and Fog Lights; (12_) Electronic Active Full Auto Air Con (Climate Control); (13-14SS) V Selection -- Which seems to be accurate description of my variant. Will try to upload a few pictures soon. The OEM wheels look like the below image. Image is taken from the goo-net-exchange website.

    • Welcome Gabriel. At least your car has a glorious RB and not the shitty CA18. As MBS206 mentioned all the good bits can be added later. Two doors or four?
    • And half of them have been converted to turbos.
