Hey ppls,

thought I'd bump this thread back up..

I do remember a discussion a little while back revealed there's quite a few ppls on SAU that have Internode as their ISP.

A quick question.. How do you find their relatively new Premium Usenet service since retention has rose close to around 40days. :)

Its awesome on dsl2. :)

meh :)

Another note...ive got my new rig almost together :) cubes, get round here with that damn cd with all goodies i need to get it going :)

BF2 here i come.....:)

meh im over BF2 but will still play with SAUers

i had my CPU fan stop working on me sat. night so had to buy a new 1 sunday :)

im on internode at home, but its always d/c and i never get full speed, it only gets max 6mb, usually 3mb :D

on an other nite, my mum wants a laptop so im gona sell her mine (8 months old dell inspiton 6000 with all the extras) and get a new 1...any suggestion on wat types? might get another inspiron, only looking 2 spend 1800 max, and this time with a decent 3d card :P

lol u never did end up getting a gfx card for your lappy the new Dell looks good but bit dear

Dell XPS lappy

I dont think it will :)

How can they have a running game already made, when dx10 cards dont even exist yet??

Dx10 cards would be out for Developers

on a side note might have to sell my PC as im told by Andrew @ Tillbrook's my timming bellt is making a racket and sounds like the bearings need replacing (im guessing cam gears have bearings) so depending on what Steve @ Manta Racing says i think i will be selling my PC and getting sumthing cheaper for the mean time and putting the rest in the car

so if you know any1 looking for a PC i can get the specs of it and i can tell u it wont be cheap (its a Gamers Rig but might take my $1000 GFX card out not sure yet)

more news as it comes

Nothing to do with the cam gears it will be the cam belt tensioner/idlers. You'd know about it if the cam bearings went.

You have a couple of options.

Press off the external ring and buy a bearing suitable from CBC for around $30, so $60 in total for bearings for the idler and tensioner + what some one charges to press off and on.

OR... Head to holdens and pick up two vl rb30e tensioners for $80 each. So $160 in total + labour pulling the radiator out, harmonic balancer cam belt covers then replacing cam belt ($90 from nissan) if it hasn't been done already, if replacing cam belt its wise to do the water pump ($80 for a good quality aftermarket waterpump). oh and + coolant another $30 odd possibly a/c pwr and alt belts if required.

So just there thats $360 in parts. + labour that should take no more than 2 hours. Unsure what mechanics charge today. Lets say worse case $100 p/h so you could be up for close to $600 for a major service.

IF you decide to buy an idler instead of the tensioner just the idler is around $280 from memory, or was it $180.. Most likely $180.. Stupidly priced. Grab a tensioner as they are a locking tensioner so essentially an adjustable idler.

chears cubes food for thought

ive been given 2 quotes $820 from 1 place w/out waterpump and $1250 with

i think i will be doing it with a mate

hes not sure about the harmonic balancer and how to put it back on though ..

does any1 have a workshop manual for these engines or that really isnt needed?

To remove the harmonic balancer you will need to buy a cheapo $19 balancer puller from supercrap/motor mates etc.

It comes off easily.

To put it back on simply push it on by hand a little, place the bolt in and screw the bolt back in, as it does it pulls the balancer back on.

Cheaper aftermarket cam belts can be had for around $40 but the Nissan belts come with white markings on them so you can line up all the points easily. Definitely worth while as you don't want to throw the cam timing out a tooth or two.

I have a 33 workshop manual.

I think the tensioner bolt snapping is more so related to the stud not being replaced and overtightened. So.. ensure the $2 stud is replaced and torqued up to its correct settings. Same goes for the harmonic balancer, use the old bolt but be sure to lock tight it and torque it up correctly.

  • 3 weeks later...

Bumping a thread here :)

Got my system running finally, bar 1 or 2 things....

Just wondering what programs people use to bench their system? Ive got 3dmark06 here, and superPi, so ask and ill do some tests @ stock speeds.

Also wondering about how u guys oc your machines....(im a noob oc'er :O)

I usually find the maximum the ram is able to handle..

Keep the cpu near stock as possible speeds and ramp up the ram speed. Use memtest to find its limits.

Then drop the ram back down.

Now ramp up the cpu speed and use prime95 to find its sweet spot.

I usually do this by ramping up the speed until it requires a few volts to be stable, the sweet spot is where you need large increases in vcore to achieve only a small increase in cpu speed. Heat usually becomes an issue but as you are running water you shouldn't have the heat problem. :O

Then you know the limits of both the ram and cpu. Now try to find the closest speed attainable for both the cpu and the ram. :)

um i got the nice gear but dont O/C :O (its auto set on turbo in the BIOS)

i use 3dmark 05,06

super_pi_mod-1.5.zip

and my 3dmark05 score is 10,142

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=1999050

NOTE my 3dmark score i primarly my gfx card score not MY CPU its benched best in dads chepie PC :) a AMD 3700+ with 1gb of kingston ram all running stock

**EDIT**

get CPU-z from here http://www.cpuid.org/cpuz.php

    • My take on gg2 48mm, 54mm, 58mm, and 62mm compressor map for same size compressor vs gg1 : All gg2 only outflow gg1 above 20 psi. As all g gen 2 surge line at lower left of comp map move to the right, all gg2 sacrifice spool vs same size gg1, surge line move to the right worst for 54mm gg2. So for same size compressor if you want best response, use gg1, if you want max hp at >20psi use gg2 but you will be laggier vs same size gg1. Max compressor efficiency drops to max 75% on all gg2 vs max 76%-80% of same size gg1. Iirc lower efficiency means hotter iat less dense air so lower hp at same operating point of comp map. Also curious why gg2 is mapped to lower max rpm vs same size gg1 (only 48mm size both gg1 gg2 mapped to same rpm) : 54mm gg1 165,000 rpm  vs  gg2 160,000 rpm. 58mm gg1 150,000 rpm vs gg2 140,000rpm. 62mm gg1 145,000 rpm vs gg2 140,000 rpm. If gg2 can safely spin to gg1 rpm then they can flow a bit more than as mapped. Good thing that all gg 2 interchange compressor and turbine housings with same size gg 1. So gg1 owners can buy gg2 chra only if planning to boost >20psi.
    • My stuff is all with Shannon's, granted, I don't really have imports I'm driving on the road, however, I've had multiple cars at the same time with them. Presently we have the Landcruiser on laid up cover, Sarah's Kluger on full cover, and the house insured. About 18 months ago Sarah wrote her Subaru Liberty GTB off, insured with Shannon's, and the payout, and buy back of the wreck was super quick. In 2020 we had the VF Commodore totalled in a major hailstorm. Storm was on the Saturday, I called on the Sunday and lodged it, vehicle was towed on Tuesday night, assessment team called on Wednesday to say it was a total loss and get payout details, money was in the bank on Thursday morning. Have had a few other claims both at fault, and not at fault, over the years, and never had an issue with them.   Funnily enough, they're also the cheapest insurer I find for things like Sarah's Kluger.   I will say I'm less impressed dealing with them lately around "the experience", as a lot of their staff that you deal with aren't car enthusiasts. Shannon's has a much more main stream feel ever since they decided to become "big corporate", laid a heap of staff off, and then hired a bunch of non enthusiasts. At the same time they've been making a push to be less "call us and we'll personally have someone who cares help" to "hey, this computer can do stuff for you" and are trying to get more square pegs to fit round holes. (That's just the vibe I get from them). Again, have had no issues with claims with them, but get a bit of a "less personal" feel from them.
    • A thing I wasn’t happy with with enthusiast was during the initial phone call they told me they’d insure it for 130k but needed photos.   I then sent them photos and they told me $80k as there were other cars either similar modifications available for around that price, I told them to send me the links to said cars so that I can buy them. i then sent the modification list with prices of the parts (no labor) and the price then came to 115k, which is still shy of the 130 that was agreed in the initial phone call
    • Ask me a bit later this week before payday
    • I agree that delayed payment probably isn't the most suitable solution. It seems a solid complete transaction would be best. As I wouldn't be using this sale as a line of credit that would typically earn interest, we can probably arrange a much cleaner single transaction deal. I can do $92.52 today. Would you prefer EFT, or Cash on Pickup?  😛
