I'll stop there.. There appears to be essentially 2 main isp's who are SAU goobers. Node and Bigpong. :P

what do u mean peers with youtube ....

do u get free data off the youtube site?

http://files.bigpond.com/ search for linux you will find 414 results but as for me its free data your usage is recorded

Peering is what happens when two ISPs agree that it's in their mutual best interests to improve connectivity between their respective customers by connecting to each other.

Peering can either be multilateral (through an intermediary, such as Pipe Networks or WAIX) or unilateral (direct - like Internode's relationship with Pacific Internet, Google, YouTube and AARNet).

ISPs with restrictive peering policies tend to have suboptimal paths to destinations in the same geographic coverage area.

Peering = reliability and consistency.

Optus for example only *unsure if this is still the case* peers with MCI, Telstra and AAPT.

who cares my computer works and thats all that matters to me!

actually... Pauly is with Telstra unlimited 10gig plan for home. but at work im on a SHDSL 1 Terrabyte Internode plan...

unlimited and 10gb don't go to well in the same sentence. :O

I'm quite surprised Telstra are still selling their products with the unlimited tag attached when almost all have abolished it.

not the point. unlimited it is.. in capacity. in speed. yes its limited but only if u go over 10gigs. its a quite simple prospect and if u have telstra everything else its a little cheaper.. please keep that in mind.

i just shoved an old car deck in my computer. works fine. lol. when u play nfs carbon with no music and u find urself trying to drive and change cd at the same time its a unusual experience lmao.

internode-adsl2-distance.jpg

speeds are better on the comparable pricing plans. If u have extreme cable (ie u pay >$59) then its not worth it in comparison if u have the choice between the two..and your still only getting pisser 256k uploads..:O

Unlimited is not something that has limits.

Quite a simple prospect.

I care little for 'bundling' is a little cheaper as its not the topic of discussion. :O

EDIT: Surprise... Bigbog has changed wording.. Bigpond Liberty. It has been a while since I checked their website.

Its not Unlimited.. its LIBERTY!!! :O

Oct 2006

BigPond quietly removed the word "unlimited" from its broadband plan names this week, making it the last of the big ISPs to do so.

BigPond began using the term "unlimited" in December 2003 to describe plans that slowed to dialup speeds after a certain amount had been downloaded. The term was confusing however, as it had traditionally been used to describe plans with no speed (or other) restrictions. Other ISPs used terms such as "shaped" or "flat-rate" instead.

Once the trend had been set, however, the term "unlimited" spread until it was quite common, with many ISPs pointing the finger at Telstra as an excuse for the practice.

But in May 2005, Primus began widely advertising its Big Kahuna plans, which it marketed as "unlimited". Incredibly, some of the plans offered as little as 500MB before slowing to dialup speeds. Following a Whirlpool complaint to Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV), Primus pulled all of its advertising, and relaunched without the term.

Subsequently, CAV began a drawn out campaign to rid the industry of the practice, with a number of ISPs changing their plans names over the next 12 months, including Netspace, Optus, OzEmail, People Telecom, Primus, TPG and WestNet. Internode had also previously used the term, but changed it prior to the investigation.

Last month, CAV released a statement regarding the action. "Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) conducted a detailed review of advertising and promotional material published by a number of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and found that many were offering 'unlimited broadband downloads' when, in fact, download limits applied," said Victorian Minister for Consumer Affairs Marsha Thomson.

"I am encouraged by the industry's response to the Government's requests and the more correct term, 'flat rate', is now being used for these plans."

BigPond was the last holdout, but earlier this week it replaced the word "unlimited" with "liberty" in its advertising. As a result, smaller ISPs can no longer claim "the BigPond defence" as an excuse for calling flat-rate plans "unlimited".

Whirlpool encourages anyone that notices misleading broadband advertising to complain to Consumer Affairs Victoria, or their state's equivalent.

Whirlpool is currently down, none the less here's the cached link.

Pauly, being an enthuiast and in the IT field, I struggle to understand how you supported/made excuses for the bigpong.

I have a little hatred towards the bigpong as

1. Wholesale and bigpong should be 2 separate companies, which most likely will never happen.

2. They are anti-competitive and have been pulled up on it many times by the accc.

3. They have done stuff all to progress internet technologies within Australia, its the little company's that have cut profits to progress the Internet technologies (internodes annex-m is an example of this and all the others (iinet, adam, internode etc) that have invested in dslams to provide us users with faster internet)

We need competition within this industry as it promotes growth. Its a win win for the customer.

I'm disregarding cable as cable serves a very small percent of the population.

yeah i agree cubes something needs to be done ...

one thing also im apualed @ before going to bed is BPL

in short Broadband over Power Lines

something about it interfears with HAM radio ...well who uses ham these days :O

also why would i choose ADSL2+ when i live 5km from the exchange when they start puting dslams @ the RIM then im sold if i can convince the old man but u know package phone fox and net get 5% of all services

hey hey... i aint paying for it.. So I won't complain about it :P

But if I was to pay for a service. Id go with Internode... cause I know I can pull a few strings and get a good deal on an 80 gig plan with unlimited uploads. Until then... go Bingbong...

    • Latest round of updates on the car. I purchased and installed a SWS clutch slipper to help with 60ft times and got some second-hand good condition 275/40R17 Hoosier DR2 radials. Test and tune in November showed the tyres were an upgrade over my over 15 year old mickey Thompson's and I got a 1.8 second 60ft and pb et of 11.71 but even then, that run wasn't great due to rain and driver error (the event got called off 10 minutes later fast forward to the weekend just gone 25th of Jan and there was finally a break in the weather to let racing happen. The first run the track was slippery and only managed a 12.1@129 Second run the track was better and got a new pb et and mph: 11.54@131   Lith and I then worked out that I installed the previously mentioned clutch slipper incorrectly and its never been working, and I had just been dumping the clutch the entire time, we also noticed it was on street boost and not race boost. So I lined up for a third run with the car turned up in the first two gears, but the passengers side axle objected to clutch dumps and left the chat which stopped my weekend.   so there will be another attempt in the future once I replace the tyres as they rubbed and are stuffed now. but a low 11 should be on the cards.
    • Ceramic coating and heat shielding, you mean?
    • Turbos don't require pulling the motor apart so that's "easier". I would recommend the Nismo R3 turbos instead if you want to do stock twin turbo. It doesn't make as much power as the 2530s but it's only like ~50 whp off the mark and should have better response (ball bearing CHRA, slightly smaller turbo). A local that went with a Garrett G30 and 6boost manifold recently nearly burned his car to the ground after the hood insulator started melting and and burning so if you go single turbo I recommend doing a lot of research and validation work to make sure you don't do the same.
    • New rear lights, filler panel sprayed, cleaned and back together    before, during, after shots 😍
    • 100% is gyprock, I agree. Slip of the keyboard. Haha! I left my indicator bulbs out to save a bit of weight.
