what does this say in some sort of english guys, is what i have good?

thanks fello freekazoids

go to the SPD tab in CPUz and in there it will show how slot and # however many slots show up when u click it is how many slots you have

but in the screenshot you posted it says DUAL that means your current ram is running in dual channel so theoretically you could run 4gb in the 2 slots that you have asuming theres no more slots

All it means is you r ram is running dual channel ie. your laptop has 2 identical ram chips running in serial or dual channel mode. Chances are your laptop only has 2 ram slots and both are already full.

I don't know where his overclocking comment comes from - your laptop is not being overclocked.

FYI when you overclock a PC you make it faster. So by upping the fsb,the clock speed rises, and your pc goes faster. Like I am running my X2 4200+ system (which clocks at 2.2Ghz) at 3Ghz, which effectively makes my PC a X2 5800+ .... healthy speed increase for no $$$. Downside is the harder you clock a CPU and ram, the hotter they get, and it supposedly shortens their life expectancy. If you want to know more Wikipedia or Google are your friends. You will find literally thousands of articles and websites dedicated to this.

thanks alot, that helped. it says i have 2 slots, with 512mb things in each one. if that makes sene. i know lappies have come along way these days in the way of cooling etc...but is it not a good idea to up my ram to say 2 x 1gb ram sticks...will that cook it? any idea's to help my lappy from not cooking? thanks

upping your amount of memory won't affect your laptop negatively in any way. Since you are not overclocking you don't have to worry about heat etc.

But, you will find the price of 2 x 1Gb ram sticks to suit your laptop brand and model to be OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive!

either its just me or i got heaps of spyware or something but id expect this lappy, 2ghz, 1gb ram 2 x 60gb hard drives to go pretty well....it feels like its lagging behind a bit. just with some things....is it possible to pretty much wipe the hard drive, keeping all my stuff on the hd i dont use and then starting again..to get rid of any spyware etc.... sorry bout all the questions but i use this lappy everyday and its givin me the shites. or is it better to put all my shit onto an external hd and taking it back to where i got it? im just a tight arse lol

forget about upgrading your laptop, period. They are notoriously temperamental, and you will require specific model and spec ram chips from the supplier that built the laptop - and these are normally 200% - 300% the price of generic PC ram.

Its not that bad, I sold laptops as my full time job for a year a few years ago and as long as you use the same sticks its fine. Its only older laptops when using new high density 512mb pc133 sticks that they have trouble.

Just get a matched pair and you should have no worries.

Back up your personal shite on CD/DVD/or external HDD, then run the recovery CD the lappie came with. They pretty much run themselves - should format your HDD (all data will be lost if not backed up) and install Windows and all the oem programs.

If you're not comfortable doing it I suggest you take it back to where you bought it, or drop it to me overnight and I will do it for say $50 cash. I am in Northgate - not too far from you I believe.

DO NOT overclock a laptop. they have only 1 fan at best and little or NO efficient ventilation. might aswell throw it in the bin, along with 2000 dollars for buying a new one.

At worst they will overheat and become unstable, slightly increased temps barely reduce the lifespan of the chips, its running higher voltages that does. Get a proper temp monitoring program and keep it within 65c on load and you'll be fine. Even if it did kill the chip you wouldn't be up for a whole new laptop.

who cares when inexperience can lead to permanent damage. random rebooting even on new installations, undesired effects man... its all a conspiracy.

Geez you could say that about anything, even winding up the boost on your car.
