Something that might be worth a shot, open up a command prompt and run 'sfc /verifyonly'

It checks the integrity of windows system files for any corruption and will notify if any have gone missing.

Check the event logs, both Application and System. If something on your system crashes theres nearly always a log entry about it that may have more information about the problem.

Does windows have it's own drivers by any chance? Uninstall the realtek ones and see if windows can find drivers locally or from windows update.

Hey guys, it's time I got into this side of things since I do electronics & am a bit of a super geek when I want to be.

I built up my own system a few months back consisting of the following:

Intel core i7 920 (overclocked to 3.2GHz)

Gigabyte EX58-UD5 motherboard

3x2GB GSkill PI 1600MHz RAM

HIS 4870 ICEQ4 Turbo

Lian-Li Silent Force 850W power supply

Lian-Li PC-P60 Gaming tower

1TB Seagate Barracuda HDD

Samsung 2494HS monitor

Logitec G15 Keyboard & G9 Mouse

Logitec Surround Sound

I built this system to be as quiet as possible & for the large part I achieved that. It looks pretty sweet too.

The graphics card can make a bit of noise when gaming, but normally you can't hear it for all the other loud noises going on.

Obviously there's a lot of upgrading that can be done with this system, but first I'll probably set up 2 HDD's in RAID 0. I like the idea of SSD's, but I would like to spend some money on the car too!

I've also found that even with a good overclock DirectX 10.1 Games can be quite taxing on the system so I am also thinking about getting a second card to run Crossfire when my card gets a bit cheaper unless ATI or Nvidia come out with a ground breaking replacement in the near future.

I'd also kill for a G25 wheel so I can start playing racing games. Tried on a friends computer & loved it

Windows 7 x64 ultimate booting off a R0 isn't too bad, but a few raptors in 0 would be nice, are they still noisy drives?

they spin at 10k rpm, so they are louder than ur standard drive, but not as loud as seagate or a deathstar.

my win 7 x64 boots pretty dam quick on a 7200RPM drive, but i know it can be so much better

I've got a 36Gb & a 74Gb Raptor laying around somewhere if interested for a boot drive Carl.........hardly used.

I have a Lian Li PC60 and a Silverstone TJ09 (all aluminium too) and the TJ09 is every bit as good as the PC60.

For the cost of a single raptor, I'd rather 2 x 7.2K RPM drives in RAID 0 for the OS

Would like SSD's but just can't justify the cost at the moment. I'm running Pro Tools LE 8.01 on my XP boot drive (not in RAID) and I cannot get the PC to sweat yet even with 20 audio tracks with 7-10 instances of guitar rig going at once + various other plugins. I know that these aren't taxing on HDD performance but still I don't think I can justify the cost until I actually need extra performance

Interesting & clean design that Silverstone case, but it looks like there's too much emphasis on sucking air out & not enough on blowing cool air in IMO.

Seagates (esp Barracudas) have always been the quietest range of desktop hdds for the last 5 years. WD have better reliability and speed however, which is why theyre more common - seagate is a company that concentrates on their enterprise market (as in scsi hdds, raid arrays, serial attached scsi etc) so they don't promote their stuff as much, and the technology from enterprise eventually trickles down to the consumer level.. that said, Im running the 1tb WD drives for data storage so I'm not really concerned about noise... If I was building a silenced rig (without SSD's) I'd be using the seagate drives in a silenced and cooled enclosure... however SSD are totally silent, very reliable and generate almost no heat - their only downside at this point in time is write speeds and the cost

People are using 2.5's because its no longer necessary to have 3.5" hdds. Back in the old days, a 10mb hdd would take up 2x 5.25" bays, and when the 80386 came out they had 3.5" hdd's (this is circa 91 give or take a year)... from next year onwards you'll be seeing cases with 2.5" hdd bays alongside the 3.5" bays - professional Serial Attached Scsi (SAS) drives run around 15,000 rpm and have 150gigs in a 2.5" form factor - the rackmount systems i work on are generally packing a raid5 of such drives

www.solidstatedigital.com.au will have every solid state drive available for consumers. I bought my aftermarket runcore 32gb ssd for my asus eee pc from them, and theyre a bunch of top blokes - i personally will be buying 2x60gb SSD OCZ Vortex when windows 7 comes out and I can buy a copy, then installing them as a raid 0 array for a total of 120gb, with a raid1 mirror of 2 gigs (2x2gb wd blacks)

I did read a little while back that OCZ were bringing out a 3.5" version, which was going to be 2 x 2.5's sandwiched in one enclosure. Thought they looked pretty interesting.

Don't think I'll be buying any for a good year though yet, just to many $$$. Prehaps when a couple of 60GB's get down to about $150 each I'll make the switch.

There is a the massive section towards the front of the case on both sides that is used for intake and the hard drive bays are separate from everything else also. The sheer size of the case too makes for one very finely cooled OC'ed PC which is the reason I went for this particular case. Nothing wrong with Lian Li cases at all, just this TJ09 fit my needs better than any of the Lian Li cases that were on offer at the same time and these are built equally as good. In short, there's absolutely no problem with cooling imo

Thx but Im already running the rc here, and will be buying it for the sake of tax writeoff (that and I try to avoid pirated software these days). $165 for Home Premium which is all I need.
