would only need the server card on a gigabit lan, and even then its maximum overkill in a domestic setting. it would make zero difference on ur intarwebs speed.

well im on a gigabit network ,

ive got a 24 port hp pro curve switch with 6 computers plugged in and file transfers are essential considering i can transfer from one pc to another at around 85mb/sec which is better then 40mb/sec

its ur $ and like i said in what u quoted. its overkill for a domestic setting. transfer speeds are unbelievebly similar accross the price range. realistically all u will get for 1000% more cost is the server card may live longer

and care factor

by the sounds of it he has the card and is stuck with it not working in vista becuase is possibly normally meant for windows server which just happens to work fine under xp as they are basically the same

no you dont if there has been an active landline at the residence before...

most providers of naked DSL are lazy, and it makes life easier for them to get you to connect in the first place (also you pay the connection fee, so they dont have to worry about that :ninja: )

all providers of naked DSL do is buy the rights for the stretch of phonline between your house and the street, and they put the cost that they incur for that into your service charge.

it was not finacially viable for me to move to naked dsl with internode, as it would take 18 months for me to break even wih the cost of naked dsl vs landline + ADSL.

/2c

That's the thing... My new place (should get keys this week sometime) has never been lived in and doesn't have a phone # connected so I don't really want to have to pay for a # to be connected so that an ISP can just disconnect it again for naked dsl just to save paying line rental from Telstra!

as it is a new line, i dont think you have much choice...

do u actually intend to use ur landline for calls? i dont use mine, and it costs me $20/month for the landline, plus my intarwebs charges... the total is only $5 more than naked DSL.... making calls on it is a different story tho

That's why I thought I'd ask 'cause I was thinking the same thing

No

take into consideration signup costs for both landline, and the internet, it may be cheaper to do it the traditional way

there is not much cost difference then if u have homline budget from telstra (approx $20/month) + the cost of ur intarwebs.

for quality service, try internode, or adam....

if u want budget crappy service with lots of usage, go TPG :ninja:

i stand by my comment. my neighbor has TPG, and he has more drop outs and fk ups from customer service/tech support that i ever imagined possible. my service is rock solid, and we are on same exchange, and connected to the same phone pit out front. have recieved similar reports from mates interstate too. the woes of a wholesale ISP.

if ur going well with them, more power to ya. just wouldnt be my choice

My brother got a few copies of windows 7 RC from uni the other day and i thought what the hell i'll put it on my primary computer, upgraded it straight from vista and i am extremely impressed. It loads faster than vista and uses lest ram at idle. The only conflict i had was daemon tools as well so it's very impressive.

^^ i concure my mate just installed it last night on a q9450 sli rig with a OCZ ssd and he is very impressed, i was less so becuase i have already had it a couple of months :)

(thanks Luke)

its just a pity you have to pay for what should of been vista in the first place

    • Yeah was thinking that. I've had the car go lower idle possibly around 650rpm every once in a long time after pouring fuel and would sound quite rough like a misfire, almost like it's shit fuel or something but who knows.

Great event last year and hoping for the same this year.    I've emailed them to ask to set a location aside for the Stageas for the show and shine - they are happy to do so if we can get them numbers, I'm happy to keep track of that. Entering as Nismo category.    I'll be road tripping up from Melbourne, would be cool to convey if people are interested, maybe there is SAU convoys from each capital?
