6 drop outs in an hour

starting to annoy me.

edit, its getting worse. its dropping out, then reconnecting... at 1mbps...

and staying there. with occasional bursts out to 24mbps...

i feel like throwing this thing out the window.

Most common sources of problems...

1. The channel configuration for ur wireless network is the same as another wireless network close by. If you know your way around your router, go the the wireless settings and change the channel its being transmitted at. (ie, most netgear routers have default channel 6 for 802.11g&b networks and an automated rating down of power if another network near by is transmitting on the same channel. Just change the channel to a higher or lower number and the signal will be relatively uninterupted.

2. Wireless adapter drivers. Update your wireless adapter's drivers everytime a new driver comes out. Drivers ar released because they get updated to fix hardware problems and compatability with software.

3. Your wireless adapter may require you to use specific software for it to acess networks instead of the default windows one. Try reinstalling the drivers and using the software it gets bundled with, such as on laptops, the manufacturers laptop specific software for the hardware in the laptop, or for computer PCI cards, (such as netgear) they come with their own network finding and connecting software.

4. Perhaps the biggest one is location. Where is your router? where is your device to connect to it? what walls/ types of walls, or other interfering objects are in the way? Is the router above or below the device? Alot of these are factors in network strength. place the router in your house at the most central/ highest practical place to have maximum connectivity.

so does anyone else want an invite to tvtorrents or supertorrents private torrent communities? On tvtorrents you get unbelievable download speeds of all great tv shows (old and new), and Supertorrents has new and old movies, games and all kinds of apps.

Obviously in these communities you have to give back what you take (and more) to keep the system going and speeds up, but that is part of the torrent philosophy anyhow.

Well i got a new Nintendo Wii yesterday along with Zelda, Red Steel, Wii Sports (included with console) and Wii Play.

First impressions it's a sexy looking console.

Really small and just looks very sleek. And has the usual Nintendo quality feel to it.

Setup is a breeze just plug everything in. And then it's a fairly simple setup proccess to set the time etc, etc.

One thing thats really awesome is the wireless networking. All i had to do was search for my SSiD and imput the password.

So far you can only download a small selection of retro games, but in the future you will be able to view current news, and read forecasts for the wheather.

It will also early in the new year be able to do web browsing with an Opera browser that will be free initially.

The wiimote is great, i do find i get a tired arm holding it up while playing games, but thats probably a good thing as i'll get used to.

I will review games maybe later tonight.

It also has ports for 4 gamecube controllers and 2 gamecube memory cards. Which is great as i can now pack away my cube as the wii will play most of my old games (just not imported titles as freeloader will not work with the wii)

Another interesting point is that the Wii is the first DVD drive that is a slot loader that will accept both 8 cm and 12 cm discs. It sucks them in with some gusto and sounds really well put together like i mentioned earlier.

It also has a slot for SD memory sticks. Which makes sense as Nintendo have worked with Matsashua (Panasonic) in the past.

It can be used to store game saves, photos' from digital camera's and to save downloaded games to.

One thing i am slightly disapointed with is the lack of true HD. it will do 480P with Component cables (currently not avaliable in australia)

I'm sure once component cables are around the image will look a lot less blurry but it is slightly annoying as i've got a $3000 lcd tv and it's not that great looking.

All in all it should be another good console, i more or less buy them as they are tax deductable, my younger brothers will use it lots, and as part of my job it's important to know how all these consoles compare.

I've only spent about 5 minutes with each of the games so once i log some time i'll let you all know what i think.

If you answer me now. and you are truthful ill drop everything i been planning and buy a Wii.... none of that stuff you wrote really appealed to me apart from 1 thing.

The fact that your arm gets tired holding the remote up.

Maybe this is more than just a console but a form of endurance. Something that nintendo consoles have been well known for. how many times did your arms n hands hurt holding that dam snes controller playing mario bros for hours on end... i want that feel back. but at the sametime...

PS3 looks to be the most sophisticated unit this console generation.

Although I'm a diehard Sony PS fan and a M$ hater, I say the PS3 will be a failure for the following reasons -

-Piss poor launch availability

-Way too expensive

-Too late to the market

-Reports of it being harder to program thanks to the complex Cell CPU

-No great advantage technically over the competition and you are basically paying for a cheap BluRay player whos format has a very shaky future.

As much as I hate it, the competition will probably end up getting my money..

As long as theres screaming kiddies with parents with too much money, and teenagers who dont know better it always will be popular.

Personally ill be saving for DX10 cards which will be better than anything u seen before. Pcs will always be better than consoles.... U can upgrade components as needed and always be near the top in terms of having some decent eye candy. Consoles take way too much time from bs hype to release

Mainstream DX10 cards are still a while off (I bet the 8800GTX is crap anyway for the DX10 - more of a gimmick just like anything first gen), especially the games that will utilise it! I agree PCs are the best way to go but some games are still naturally better on the console and vice versa. Not to mention you spend far more money on PCs cos as soon as you buy something its out of date.

I'll definately be getting a PS3... if not for the games, but so i can run linux and folding@home on it. Cell processor damn - for a grand it's a bloody bargain, we're looking into Cell workstations and they're around the 4-5k mark.

I've had a bit of a bad run with Antec PSU's. :S

I bought an Antec Sonata case some time ago that came with a Truepower 380w. Within 3months the psu went pop, good old bad caps. Had it replaced under warranty.

For a while now I've been experiencing cold boot issues where the system would boot at fail safe speed, entering the bios and resaving would have the computer boot at full speed. I've always put it down to a flakey m/board as since day one its been overclocked and has been vdd & mem volt modded.

Well not so... Today I had issues with the trusty antec psu powering up an E6400, dropped a cheapo psu on it and its as good as gold.

Cracked open the antec psu and lo and behold.......... Leaky caps.

I have another system running on a Antec 350w Trueblue or what ever they are called, that too is experiencing the odd cold boot issue so I think its time to pull my finger out and have a look at that too..

In short.. A couple+ years ago Antec were a damn good PSU.. Just a pitty I can't find my receipt for warranty.

played my mates Wii last night. It was alright but i think the novelty would run out quickly i think.

No more consoles for me, i'm gonna stick with the pc
