Hello all,

I know this may seem like a stupid question but I have a 97 R33 Gts-t series 2 and on a few occasions have driven the car on very

low fuel, that is the fuel guage needle was on the square bit of the fuel guage at the bottom of it so in other words very low and there was no signs of a fuel warning light?

Has anyone else had this problem or was it just me and my car could have been driven for a fair while more?

When the needle starts to touch the top of the "E" you have used approx 60L's. When the needle goes through the middle of the "E" you have used about 62.5 L's.

Its not uncommon to do an extra 40km with the fuel light on/off.

is there a way to check to see if your fuel light works bsides running it until it low on fuel b/c there has been occasion in which Ive also ran low but light doesnt seem to go on, but by this time Im searching for a petrol station to fill up. btw I also own a 97 series 2.

You'll know .... last time I had a low fuel incident was doing Putty Road, went about 40-50 km after the low fuel light came on (running on vapour) ....

I just turned my boost way down and drove a little friendlier ... doesn't help when your car is running rich as it is :)

I can't believe what i am reading. When my fuel gauge reads 1/4 i hit the pumps. This is to avoid any sh1t in the tank from being sucked through and blocking filters, injectors, etc. Also prevents the engine running lean when cornering hard. Just remember Australia was one of the worst supplies of fuel in the world. I have read that farmers in europe wouldn't use our grade of fuel in their tractors, due to it's impurities.

I run on empty all the time. I've got over 60kms without running out with the light on.

The yuky stuff in your tank always ends up in the filters, thats why you ought to change them regularly(this includes cleaning the fliter sock on the intank pump). If you need to corner at high speed (I assume on the race track) a purpose built surge tank is a great way to go.

Al: thats what the fuel filter is for!

Unfortunately its hard to spend the $60 or so to fill the tank each time, then i end up driving too much because i think "oh, i've got plenty of fuel, i'll just drive here and here and here" and it soon goes :D

Today i got 100km on $20.. a record for me! damn high boost..but the fun of it all!

So conclusion is, It will only come on when I'm practically running on vapours is this right? Cause I tell ya It was running fairly low the other day and still didn't come on but like you were saying, It may have not been low enough?

With mine, it hits the line next to 'E', but the light doesn't come on until it's a good few mm below that (probably about 5mm). normally just it by the trip meter... I fill it to the brim, and drive around until I see around 500km. It'll normally take around 50-55L by then, and the guage is showing pretty much on or just below the 'E' line - so that should give an indication as to how it reads.

And please guys, don't turn this into YET ANOTHER fuel consumption thread...

i have a 96 ser2, and didn't see the fuel light come on for ages after sitting on E, i thought it may have been broken but eventually it came on, btw i got 480km out of a full tank with some thrashing until the fuel light came on. I think the fuel light on the skyline comes on once it's really low. On my old 95 ser1, it used to come on once the needle hit E.

Would this not confirm if it is a blown bulb:

Put the key in and turn the IGN to ON so that all the lights on the dash turn on...

Can someone confirm for me if the petrol light comes on (when the key is "ON").. Cause I think mine is blown as well.... (used to come on all the time but never see it come on any more when petrol is low.

Thanks to all that gave me an answer as I haven't had the chance yet to run as low as most of you have told me that I would see the warning light come on!

But especially Robo's question which is in fact Interesting as I would like to know from all you other guys if when you turn your Ignition on, does the fuel light come on for those of you with the same model skykine as mine? This should sum thing's up a little easier I think!

I have an S2 and I have never noticed all the lights turn on - I think only a few (HICAS definitely, passenger seat belt if applicable, handbrake).

Also, FYI the low petrol lamp is on the top row, 2nd from the left.

Also, I have heard running on low fuel is bad, but I still do it. Does that Wynns Spitfire stuff clean the system well? Any other recommendations?

I actually noticed the other day (in regards to this thread) that with the ignition on my fuel light is not lit up. (98% sure i have a S1 - 10/95 build date).

I usually fill up when the fuel light pops on n off for 5k.

Yesterday when i filled up as above i filled up with 60L untill it kept clicking off.

So there is no conclusion on this, ey?

in a r31 gx wagon, there is no "fuel low" sensor connected, even though the sensor is in the tank and the lamp is on the dash.

in a r33 s2 the light must be connected, as it is expected to be not a budget car... /unconfirmed. also a chance the bulb is dead exists.

i will uncover the mystery soon with running it to the ground at least once and fill up with can.

how much litres in a tank there is in r33 s2?
