I'd question the dealer about that one..... There should be a green plate =under the bonnet somewhere and a silver VIN number affixed to the firewall next to the original japanese VIN number (usually on the lip at the back)

If a car is not complianced then it has been bought in illegally and if caught the Govt has the right to make you crush your car and then send the evidence report to DOTARS.....

Go see the dealer and ask to see the RTA inspection report, Import Approval, and invoice.... they might not show you the invoice but the other one's should be no problem...I hope)

Cheers

i got vin number but no compliance plate. and i have renewed my rego last year with no problem at all. unfortunately, the dealer i bought the car from has sold their business to other company and although they are still using the same company name, but they are different owner. i tried to call them today but seems they don't want to know anything about this.

what a load of rubbish!

Your car could be a rebodied vehice....pm me the vin...i might be able to tell you from that what the story is...i wouldnt panic

could be a test and evaluation vehicle thats the only way.. but after 12 months they must have a compliance plate fitted otherwise big fine. Been through this with a dodgy company already in Vic who somehow wanted to escape their obligation of fitting the compliance plate after 12 months. you wil be able to renew rego but when it comes to selling - good luck... IS it in Vic, otherwise its be done illegally as ylwgtr says.

re bodied cars is ghosting, and that is illegal....

I posted the stuff about DOTARS ..ice 180, Ylwgtr seems to think what i said was crap....:argue:

But it is what i read about when i was researching skyline's before i bought one...

I heard there was a big crack down on imports in Vic due to the company being found out...

I'd get in contact with DOTARS and have a chat to them about the situation and see if they can offer some advice on what to to....

Err , not completely true.

Rebodied cars is not ghosting if the damaged vehicle and new body has been presented to the relevant authorities.

It is done with Commodores and Falcons all the time by a company here in W Aust ( Carrera Autos )

It is illegal to remove the chassis number from one car and insert it in another.

equinoz , I wouldn't get too worried , if was bought and lic thru a legit car dealer , there is usually an explanation.

I assume you are talking about your R33 and not some older car right ??

Cheers

sounds liek complete bullshit in vic it is impossible to get car regoed without compliance plate unless t&e vehicle althoguh with recent events that might not be true. Was it from the country I have heard of some people paying off local staff to look the other way. Not sure how it works in NSW but thought similiar to Vic.

forogt to put it on HTF did he get it regoed then?

A re bodied car would still need the (a) complaince plate... wouldnt it?

to show that it meets australian standards and is legit right.... because the chassis numbers would not match..... that's what's throwing me off here.

I'm unsure whether Imports and Aussie car's come under the same rule... with re bodieing....

Whats the lowdown boyz?

i've checked with RTA today and all my registration is legit, car is registered, nothing wrong, and when i asked him about the missing compliance plate, he said that's fine as long as your car is registered. but i think i need that bloody compliance plate if i want to sell my car right?

SELLING AN IMPORTED VEHICLE

If you have followed the procedures outlined in this brochure and the vehicle has met the requirements for import approval and initial registration, there is no restriction

under the Act preventing the subsequent sale of an imported vehicle unless conditions have been applied to the Approval.

Check with the Registration Authority in your State or Territory for requirements regarding the sale of an imported vehicle. Addresses are at the end of this document. It is an offence to supply to the market (ie to sell for use on a public road) a vehicle that does not meet the ADRs, or is not fitted with a compliance plate, identification plate, used import plate or Personal Import plate and such action may attract a penalty of up 120 penalty points per vehicle. 1 penalty point equals A$ 110 (as at 22/ 1/ 02).

Vehicles 15 years or older shall not be fitted with a compliance plate under the Act. You should consult your State or Territory Registering Authority for registration requirements for these vehicles.

    • I ❤️ Matty I would like to thank Matty for going out his way in securing me a OEM NC detachable hard top for the NC Matty, your worth your weight in gold, and I cannot say how much I really appreciate your outstanding help I'll get it colour matched once I pick it up sometime in Dec-Jan 😁
    • We have some genuine Japanese legally decommissioned car number plates now in stock 🙂 Add some legitimately obtained JDM style to your Skyline or other Japanese model, or simply as a garage/man cave decoration! About the 40mm hole: The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure & Transport in Japan recognised the popularity of keeping decommissioned plates among car enthusiasts and came up with a method to "destroy" (or render them unusable for street use) while still retaining their collectable/usable value for display etc.  We have 40mm hole covers available to cover the hole nicely with a Sakura motif, which are also available in white in (very!) limited quantities, however they frequently sell out. Please let me know if you're wanting one or more of these and I'll check availability. The Sakura motif covers are more common. https://www.oemsoko.co.jp/products/genuine-decommissioned-japanese-vehicle-number-plate-set-su-7515 https://www.oemsoko.co.jp/products/genuine-decommissioned-japanese-vehicle-number-plate-set https://www.oemsoko.co.jp/products/genuine-japanese-vehicle-number-plate-400mm-hole-cover *Please note that we can't obtain particular number or area name (eg: "Gunma 500 Fu ・86") if requested. All plates are provided as they become available after decommissioning.
    • Ah, fair enough. For the IAT, I'm using a legit GM sensor that was used on the car prior to my current build. I'll get another wideband and IAT ordered and follow up when they show up. Thanks for the help.
    • You shouldn't need to massively fatten up the mixtures for cold conditions. For one thing - 0°C is not that cold. For another, the Haltech will be using the IAT sensor to tell it how dense the air air, and calculate the correct amount of fuelling. Then the cold start enrichment is added as a % on top of that, so it should scale with the main fuelling. You might also doubt the IAT sensor at this time. You're not using one from an RB26 are you? Using a nice Bosch sensor or similar? Happens. Some wideband units take great pleasure in killing their sensors. Put another wideband in the tailpipe and compare. Or just swap the sensor to a brand new one and see.
    • Oh, my misunderstand. When the car was running, it sounded ok, but if I gave it any gas it wanted to die but caught itself afterwards. It's very different from how it was a couple months ago when it was warmer outside. The logs show that the AFRs are better during, what I assume, is warmup enrichment. Because it's cold, and air is more dense, should I work on the enrichment bit?
