Has anyone got opinions on microdot security? apparently they spray it all over the chassis and engine bay or whatever.

same idea as HSV DNA. I sell it and under a magnifying glass it can be seen. good way to ID things

hey guys just a random thought that popped into my head. wen i had my alarm/immobiliser installed (a while bak), it came with two small stickers with the alarm brand on it. wen i got home i put them on my rear quarter windows. now im having doubts as to whether this is gonna be a deterrant to theives or an aid, helping them figure out how to break in. which is it? should i take them off?

thanks,

basti

You can get generic "alarm in use" stickers from Dick Smith.

It's better to advertise you have an alarm with generic stickers, then not to advertise at all. But never to advertise the specific manufacturer.

I'd rather have a theif being deterred in the first place, than a theif trying to break in and busting your locks, glass etc.

I just got my alarm installed and have to say it is a shit job! I have to take it back because the installer couldn't program the turbo timer into the alarm, so he just unplugged it. He then said I don't have to worry about the turbo timer unless I was doing racing in it. Second to that, the car took 7 hours of dedicated work and it's still not right!

Also, I have to take it back in two weeks time, because they decided to tell me they were closing this weekend, after initially telling me to come in on this Saturday so they can fix it up.

From what I've noticed so far, they have to integrate the turbo timer, hook up the boot release (which they were supposed to) and install the glass break sensor because they didn't have one (which they did not inform me about over the phone, until I drove all the way down there).

I haven't had the time to go over the car fully yet as I have been busy. No doubt I will find other things.

Lastly, I have a sneaking suspicion they took my car out for a fang, and went over a bump as there is a faint exhaust rattle now.

This is really poor customer service! I paid $550 fitted and it's a second rate job that isn't even finished! I wish I had waited longer to go to someone recommended off this site. But I was in a rush to get it installed and have been burnt.

Just a warning to you all.

Speaking off Mircodots.

Is there a databse where you register it?

I mean, whats the use of microdoting? Really? I reckon its useless in the black market.

What are your thoughts?

I mean how does it work? Not refering to the dots and what they contain..

But refering in real life regards!!

Say if your car got stolen and rebirth with a different vin number/engine number.. The panels will still contain the dots.

But how do you know if its been stolen perviously? is there a place where you get it checked out?

But i mean who does that?

Then again maybe this technology is for really expensive cars such as M3s and above..

Actually you know what would be cool.

If you could activate these mircodots once your car has been stolen, which then bursts out colour or something? Or glow really bright..

So your car looks like its got millions of these dots (telling others that its been stolen)

Wont be hard not to see it!!

Or spray these dots in a patterns or letters etc etc.. Eg (CAR IS STOLEN, PLEASE CALL POLICE)

So who would like to invent something like that? Do give me money if you successfuly do it :(

Hows that for an idea eh!!

Does anyone know of any good alarm places in Sydney? Preferably around St George area.

I just had the worst experience with a certain GPS tracking company. I won't name names but it took them a whole week to get my car started after it was immobilised. I got a cranky bitch who wouldn't give me any help in disarming it, she just said "I can't do anything" and gave me a whole load of attitude.

If anyone is thinking about going with the company, they're quite well known, starts with a Q.. I strongly urge you to reconsider. Unless you wanna be treated like an idiot for wanting to start your car, when it's pissing down rain at 2 am on a Sunday night.

The idiot they sent out to fix it had to come out twice because he was a lazy sack of shit who looked for every excuse in the book to not do any work. In the end I just said f**k it, rip the whole thing out. So now I need a good installer so I can fit in a Mongoose.

Sorry for the rant, I just need to urge people not to go with Q...T...

I've had a shit week and need to vent.

Here is an alarm i am currently working on at Adelaide Pro Sound on an S14 200SX.

This is what our under dash looks like with the alarm fitted. You will notice i still havent mounted the led light anywhere, but thought i would post this up of how we do alarms in my workshop.

I know Chris Rogers does them similar to me.

Anyway enjoy and remember an alarm is only as good as it is fitted.

PS: Someone has already run a bunch of wires thru the kick trim for other accessories. A couple of cable ties and some insulation tape sorted that problem out.

All,

Just a quick and simple tip to prevent theft if selling your car (as we all know many a car thief does his recon of cars advertised for sale). It may prevent crooks from stealing it (as you are no longer a soft target), and will definitely assist SAPol with follow-up if it is stolen.

Request EVERY person who inspects your car for their driver's licence, check it and record the number. Inform them when you arrange a meeting place that you require this (also covers your arse (a little) in an accident). Chances are, they will not steal it after you have done this, and if they do, you have something tangible for Police to follow-up.

Unless your car is stolen in a public place where there may be footage, there is pretty much nothing that can be done other than a doorknock if stolen from a residential area until the Police either chase it when located, or find it burnt out somewhere.

Also, NEVER let interested parties come to your house. Meet them at the nearest shopping centre car park.

I know this is not about alarms, but is another means of prevention.

Out.

    • find it funny everyone claims different fuel chains, do different things with their fuel blah blah blah. We don't have that many fuel terminals in Australia. The fuel tanker trucks drive into the terminal, fill up, and drive directly to the service station and dump out. The majority of fuel you get, is coming out of the same terminals. The variation is actually at the individual service stations and how good their tanks are, as well as how much turn over they actually have. Older fuel stations, that haven't had their tanks replaced are going to end up with the worst fuel. Also a lot of older stations have shit design, and shit maintenance, and end up with more water absorption into the tank. This is when you then get a bad batch of fuel. Other shit things happen, like tanker drivers have a f**k up, and starting to unload the wrong compartment on their truck into the wrong tank.
    • This one?? In other news: I cannot tell the difference between my red MX5 with the silver grey hard top......... and the Ferrari 599XX EVO, they might as well be twins, well.......apart from the big wang hanging off the back of the Ferrari...🤔🤣, without the wing they are identical

    • I think you'll find we're confused about what you were trying to do and how you were doing it. I would have thought that block rigidity was something you measured while loading the block in beam or in torsion, and that you would do so before and after grout filling, to see if putting material in there created a "composite" construction with the expected rigidity increase. Notwithstanding that the true function of grout is less about gross rigidity than local (ie preventing bore deflection/splitting and tying the bores to the main bearing locations a little better, etc etc). It is nearly impossible to follow your description of what you've done without closing ones eyes and making "aliens" hand shapes in front of oneself to try to follow the manipulations you've made. It's still unclear to me what you were trying to prove.
