Late last night I noticed a bad knocking / grinding noise when rolling backwards down the driveway with the clutch in...sounds bad. Seems to be coming from the around the back of the car, so i'm guessing the diff is stuffed?

Rolling forward with the clutch in sounds OK, as does driving backwards in reverse with the clutch out. Any ideas what might be broken?

Car is a R32 GTS-T, motor is all standard except for exhaust.

I noticed the same thing today. If anyone can lend a clue it would be greatly appreciated

I have heard on maybe one or two occasions of a "Thump!!" sound, rather than a grinding, I've got a feeling that maybe a bolt is loose back there, i'll probably get it checked out when i get new tyres in the near future.

But yeah, pretty sure i have come across this before on the forums, and its an easy fix (don't quote me though )

If it's the same noise I hear in my car (about to be fixed I hope), my mechanic says it's common in R33s... There are two lengths of thick wire on the arm thing with the throw-out bearing (forgive the incorrect/lame names), and in between those wires, there is a screw with a ball-head on the end. Apparently the ball-end can snap off and the clutch can still do it's job just fine, but when you're in reverse with the clutch IN, and you let it come out to the catching point (especially while rolling backwards slowly), you'll hear it go *CLACK* *CLACK* with each press/release of the pedal - it's a really ugly noise. I hear it a little bit when changing gears too. The guy who installed this clutch for me has the same 5h1t in his car so he thought it was normal.. this other guy says most ppl don't even realise its a fault or bother to look for it. Lame. I should know in the next week or so if it is my problem for sure (clutch has to be changed anyway).

    • Update time!  The JZX110 had some maintenance needing to be done, so a lot of the seals with replaced to fix some oil leaks. Also used this opportunity to whack on a front mount that I'd bought some time ago.  I also finally got the rear lip painted and fitted.  I then got the exhaust done. It's just a catback for now. Custom made 3" stainless with a turn down. I could have a tip coming out, but it will require cutting the rear lip and possibly the bumper itself. So far I do like and it's made the car a little more zippy.  Close out with some nice pictures of the cars and a sneak peek of what's next.

    • Just something I found searching for more info on Emotion R, apparently the ECR33 Skyline GTS25t was either originally black, or there were two of them, the black one being the original demo car, then building a white one which was part of the 1997-onwards (to at least 2008!) Cockpit Tatebayashi Tokyo Auto Salon booth demo cars. It appears that Emotion R closed down in 2008 and was declared bankrupt in 2010: http://bank-db.com/hasan/208365.
