thanks for the clarification cowie165 :P I couldn't google anything bout SASR involvment in the games, except some mention by Robert Hill in mid '05 bout the greater need for them for the '07 APEC meeting, over the Comm Games.

so i'm assuming we have a troop from TAG in Melbourne? would there be a need for anyone from the OAT or SBS squadrons? you involved in the ADF cowie?

man, i would love to watch the TAG guys training. Live rounds, flash bangs, wic.... :P

Hi mate. Coming up on ten years. It's a good job. Some parts aren't as good as in the ads but some are much better so I'm still happy! :P

Me too! I've seen training videos and it looks full-on. Not that you'd expect anything different I suppose but it's comforting to know there are experts out there. Apparently they do some building clearance drills with live ammunition!

Anyway, thanks for not being pissed off at my post.

:)

Cowie no chance people would get cross here

Afterall - you posted the facts. People like me just make stuff up based on what movies they saw while drinking last weekend.

Kam hehe - Comanche. Another pretend helicopter :)

When shown next to the Hulk, they looked less realistic than he did. We'd be better off with Blue Thunder or Airwolf, if only you could get Earnest Borgnine to sober up.

My rotor-bourne support choice would be good old cold-war Ruskie gear.

Kamov KA-50

Looks a bit scarier with some munitions though...

Kamov KA-50 has awsome fire power, but its too heavy for quik ground assults.

You all forgot about, the one the only.

BLUE THUNDER

The Tiger is more suited for Australian conditions.

@ DivHunter you're may well be right dude.

re: Blue Thunder I LOVED that show. "let's play...follow the leader!". Does anyone out there in SAU land know what kind of helicopter they used to make Blue Thunder? It kinda looks like a Gazelle but I'm not 100%. Gazelles have three main rotors and an enclosed tail rotor...?

I think Airwolf was a Bell 222. Such a cool show. :O

Yep.

Blue Thunder was a modified Gazelle

Airwolf was a Bell 222 :O

The Hinds that John-J shoots down with a bow and arrow in Rambo 3 are modified Pumas. Same as the Hinds that punch hot lead through Jennifer Grey in Red Dawn

I am pretty sure as there were a few articles when they formed TAG-E, lead up to Olympic games I think, from 4RAR as TAG/OAT and the SASR are in WA and the east coast had no response teams of that caliber. Either way, Australian special forces - second to none.

I can't believe I typed "you're may well be right"... :turned: My high school english teacher would throttle me if she read that.

I remember reading that too. They've stationed a Blackhawk in the area full-time. I don't know where though. Might ask around tomorrow and suss it out. I wonder if they'd leave it at Mascot? Probably just leave it at Holsworthy, makes more sense. Anyway, guessing doesn't get anyone anywhere.

@ Jamezilla: I thought the Red Dawn helicopters really were Hinds. The A-model has the 'glasshouse' WW2 bomber style cockpit glass and the later Hind E has the more familiar double-bubble? I'll have to see if I can find a pic, but it has probably been ten years since I last saw that movie. I'm pretty sure my memory of it out-shine the actual movie. I remember relating to those kids and thinking how cool it would be to kick ass like they did.

Nope - definitely Pumas. They were blessed with some Hollywood upgrades to look like the Hind-A though. Same in Rambo 3 (but the Hind-D). Word is the pilots loved the extra stability provided by the (fake) wing pods so much they nearly crashed trying to push the envelope or bust the hard deck or do whatever it is pilots do.

re: Red Dawn. It's a favourite family special here at the Plyboy Mansion.

One of the Ladas overheated whilst exploring fire trails in the Bunyip Forrest last year.

I had to pee in the radiator.

For a moment there - I WAS Charlie Sheen!

:turned:

james there aint much pretend about it, its like the jsf, has stealth capabilities, has a top speed of 175 knots with a cruising speed of 165, can do a full u turn in 4.5 seconds, can fly in any direction, forwards, backwards, left, right

TAG were at the Olympics... trained real hard for it (no surprise, coming from those guys) - obviously they weren't need but they were there. Thorpy and some other swimmer actually got to go down one day and see them in action.

i haven't heard of TAG-E, is it just made up of 4RAR guys? But yeah, TAG/SASR were def at the Olympics.

Yes they are mainly stationed over at Swanbourne, but nothing stopping them being stationed anywhere in Oz for specific events is there? ie, Olympics/Comm games, especially a place like Singleton for the Olympics. IF the Black Hawks are being kept down at Hastings, i guess that's where the TAG guys are. I don't know if there would be a need for OAT/SBS?? where as Sydney is a completely different story....

EDIT: ooohhh right, TAG-EAST, got ya...
