Just changing my front shocks - dropped down the new and old to be swapped at the local mechanic. I.e I took the shock dpring assemblies out of car so car sitting here shockless..

I've been waiting for a day or 2 now and was wondering whether I should invest in a spring compressor??

Always been scared of horror stories with these. Are there any that are around $50 that are safe?

There are only really 2 types of spring compressors that range form $40 to $400...

The hand held spring compressors look like a claw and are pretty safe to use as long as its used properly...

dont see why anything would go wrong..

and you have workshop ones that actually hold the shock and have 2 arms that compress the spring down they are a little easier...

you can get them from and auto store...

I'm just worried if as you start tightening down, either the metal fractures or the clamps slip off. That would be trouble. People have lost there face with these sorts of things I believe..

Thanks GRK. I know the different types but was wondering if anyone could point me towards ones that were cheap and good? IF they are reliable and not dangerous.

Thanks
