Who has got a bike??

Hi All,

I'm wondering who has got a motorbike out there - and what they think of em?? I'm looking at buying a bike, prolly a little 250cc due to money and having never ridden a bike before.

So in your own opinions, which 'second hand' bike would be the best to get? And are they more fun/less fun than the skyline??

I have two bikes, a GSXR750 and a Ducati 748. I love them. If you want a thrill or a quick thrash then there is nothing better than a bike. They are also cheaper to run and cheaper and easier to maintain.

I really like the R33 and with a few mods it goes ok but you get much more of a rush on a bike.

I would recommend that if you want a sporty bike get a CBR250, ZXR250 or similar. Check out http://www.importmc.com.au for pictures and specs of the different models. They are also in Brisbane at Slacks Creek.

You would be more than welcome to come riding with us if you do decide to buy a bike. We usually go for a blast once a week or once a fortnight depending on whats on.

You have to have the right attitude on a bike and ride sensibly in order to minise the risk to yourself. Also good gear is essential. I came off once in jeans and an old windbreaker type jacket and lost most of the skin off my right arm and took a big chunk out of my knee. Not pleasant. Particularly when you have to sit on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere for 3.5hours waiting for a tow truck.

I had a pack of smokes and a bottle of water in my bag and I finished both. Didn't realise how badly I had hurt myself until I got home cause of the huge adrenaline rush.

I would still rather take the bike out for a blast on the weekend than the car. Car just can't compare to leaning a bike over through a corner at 180klm/h.

U can have all the the attitude and gear in the world but when some fool blasts through a traffic light and u nail him. I would rather have a metre of bonnet in front of me than a piece of plastic and leather (are cows invincible?) lol

But then again i reckon a bike is good for the occasional weekend cainage. Ure days are numbered on a bike, but as long as you dont wear them out before u stop riding u will be fine.

one of my mates used to race bikes since he was like 7. he took me for a thrash one day and i fell in love with it. unfarkingbeliavable feeling. always wanted to get my license and i nearly put down a deposit on a cbr250 about a year ago but the danger of it has always put me off. it's not that they are that dangerous when driven sensibly. it's knowing myself that's the dangerous part. no way would i be able to hold myself back so i've decided to put it off untill i can be more sensible. might end up with a hog in my midlife crisis or something:lol:

I think I'd like to learn on a CBR250 - at least for 6 months or so. Are import bikes ok, or should I stay well away from them? (Don't knock it - it's cheep!)

but the problem with bikes is.. some people don't simply care...

I've been cut of heaps of times while riding.. I've seen other

guys kick the lower door... :uh-huh: and it's not a plesant thing

when you come off..

When someone pulls out infront of you... you will end up second

best. Unfortunately it's the truth.

I'm not trying to deter you from getting a bike... Just be well

aware of things happening around you.

And as zero said... nothing is like leaning over and taking a

big sweeper at 100+ km.......... on the track ofcourse..

Eek - CBR250 is a good bike, I had one of those and quite enjoyed it. Imports are fine, mine was an import. It is EXACTLY the same as the locally sold model and there are no hassles with parts, or servicing etc. Be careful when buying and make sure that the bike is in good nic and runs nicely. A lot of people wind back the klms on these and a lot of them have been put down the road as they are generally a learner bike. If you find one and want someone to take a look at it with you send me a PM.

Xrsist - I would never speed on public roads :confused: Actually I am generally very controlled on public roads as it is not worth the risk.

Riding a bike is definately more risky than driving a car, that is why all of your rider training etc is all about minimising the risk to yourself. Being alert, positioning yourself correctly on the road, emergency stopping and taking off, what to do if you CAN'T avoid an accident to minise the risk to yourself etc.

I have had a reasonably bad accident already and got straight back on (as soon as I could move my leg again!!) and still love riding, but am a lot more controlled now that I am no longer young and invincible.

if you like the feel of a bike then by all means buy the one you like, but did anyone see the crash on roseville bride a few months ago? sorry but i have to mention this... i know Doctor probably did. There were 2 body bags about 100-150m apart. Everyone thought two people had died but it turned out that one bag was for the body, the other for the head. The guy was go so fast he was decapitated once he hit the side of the raling.

anyway im sure you've heard heaps of stories like this, but its just not you that you have to be worried about. Its other wankers in cars who take no notice of you on a bike and if they switch lanes it'll be too late. Anyway bikes are pretty cool and they kick the crap out of cars, but of you want a bike i'd say gp for a peewee 50 . Those Ducatis though are VERY nice indeed.

That's right you need to be very aware of everything around you and never ASSUME that other drivers have seen you or care that you are there as you have no protection if they hit you.

There is always a risk, that is why rider training courses are good as they teach you to be more aware of your surroundings, always leave yourself escape routes etc.

I think everyone should have to do the basic rider training course as it also improves your driving skills and your awareness of other vehicles and potential hazards around you.

also just wanted to know if you know how fast a 69KW bike would go?? I saw a new bike in a a magazine, dont know how heavy it would be, but would anyone know how fast it would be...0-100??
