My mate owns one and he has put a boost gauge in the car and because we have no manual for the car we can't figure out what is wrong, i think it's that he hasn't disconnected the old guage however he informs me that it is electronic (meaning that there is a pressure sensor inside the pipe) not mechanical. I was wondering if anyone can back this up as i don't wanna pull it off then have to put it back on.

I know it's not working properly as the original is in mmHg and this in psi and I've work the calculations out and his new guage is showning 5 to 6 psi when it should be showning 10psi.

Any help or advice would be great

mechanical

ok well if your running a boost line into the cab i beleive the best place to take it from was underneath the top mount intercooler.

there is a rubber line that goes to a metal part and then out rubber again under the cooler. you can t peice it there and if all goes well it should be sweet.

other than that thats all i can say given the limited info..

and thats how i threw a mech guage on mine while testing it out.

but and a big but here.. be sure to have all the lines around that area firmly put back on. as when you undo any line around there and its leaking your running max boost.. it sure is fun but the poor little fuel pump cant keep up..

hope that helps you out..

i am a wee bit drunk but thats how i had it on my r back in the day

i would use neither. the line mashrock suggested is the pressure feed for the wastegate actuator, so if something goes wrong you will get unlimited boost. the fuel reg line i wouldnt touch either, as it's the pressure feed for the fuel reg. and if it stuffs up, no fuel pressure above the base 38psi.

find the map sensor. it's a little black box bolted to he inner guard. it has a vac line and and elec line going to it. that is the sensor for the stock gauge. tee into the vac line going to that. best way to do it.

    • I am using Motec M150.  I am not working on the car myself actually.  My workshop is giving all these info, they are quite reputable in the industry and are very familiar with Motec and RBs and have done a few big setups with VCam and single turbo on RBs.  In fact, they built and tuned my engine from day one.  But they are stumped with my engine at the moment and cannot work out how come the compression is so low with the VCam. They told me that they have now swapped in some Kelford cams (without the VCam) and can achieve around 130psi compression and the low end torque is better, but now the engine is doughy as.  It boosts and peaks at more than 1000rpm slower, with twin HKS GTIII RS, it doesn't get full boost until over 5000rpm. I have always thought the VCam was a bit disappointing at the low rpm. To a point I had to ride the clutch a fair bit to get up a small hill from stand still.  That was when I had a clutch.  Now changing to a 8HP, I don't have that luxury and this problem has become a major issue. I am beginning to think the VCam never work since the day it was installed.  Maybe it was just sitting at the most advanced point, that is why it went good at top end but very ordinary at the bottom.  Therefore, with the help of the Holinger 6 speed and paddle shift, as long as it was moving, it drove pretty good.
