Thanks Adrian, I do have set of Stagea 16" wheels, same size as R33GTST. I was thinking more along the lines of R32GTR rims as they are 8".

The taller sidewall is a thought, have you compared the 255/50/16's and the 275/40/17's times? Is there a noticeable difference? It's a width versus sidewall comparison, which gives the best result.

I have a pair of ugly 17 X 9" with a serious 45 mm offset, on those wheels the 275's would have no problems outwards, maybe inwards would be an issue though. That's what I have to measure.

cheers

Gtr rims are spot on. Reason for the 300ZX suggestion is a price thing. If you already have a pair they would be perfect. Much lighter (i believe) than the 300 rims.

The problem is not usually with the outer guard. The inner guard and spring are the points of contact if at all. You shouldn't have big -'ve camber on the back for drag racing anyway so standing the wheels up can help a couple of problems at once.

I have run similar times on the 275's and the 255's BUT I ran within thousandths of my best 60' time on the 275's on my first pass with the 255's. Stickers left on and all :P

Thanks Adrian I will do some measuring on the weekend. Sounds like the taller sidewall of the 255/50/16's wins over the extra width of the 275/40/17's. 255 X 50% = 127.5mm, versus 275 X 40% = 110 mm.

Yep, the standard Stagea rims are forged. I will adjust out any static negative camber, plus I will dial out some dynamic camber change as well. Are the 275/40/17's actually 275 mm wide? I have a pair of 255/40/17's that are 250 mm, and a set of 4 X 245/40/17's that are actually 260 mm wide. Tyre companies can't measure :(

We will be using the tyres on the road R33GTST and the race R32GTST, so they will get some use.

:) cheers :D

i need 255/50/16 for my rears

235/50/16 for my front

let me know when these will be avalible and if we can run these on the street.

Ta, Josh

255/50/16 is available, but 235 is only made in a 15'. 235/60/15.

Tyres are 100% street legal.

If they are the same as other "drag" tyres I have used in the past, they may well be "legal" for street use but not "recommended". They have limited tread depth and pattern, so not so good in the wet. Also the carcass is designed for straight line traction, not going around corners. What I intend to do is put them on and drive to the track, race, then drive home and change them.

That said, plenty of guys drive around with them on all the time, but they are soft and wear out fairly fast. Plus I would be concerned with what the large number of heat cycles will do for the traction when I need it on the track.

 cheers :D

Time to do some measuring

:D Cheers :P

Results are in:

Monas R33 sixty footed at 2.0 secs on street tyres and was running around 12.6 at 107mph.

Ran 1.75 sixty foot, and 12.4 at 110 on a MT 255/50/16 street radial. Backed these times up on a second run also.

Fair to say that three tenths in the sixty is a fair improvement.

Adrian was also sixty footing in the mid to high 1.7 secs last night, ran 11.8 @ 117mph.

For further enquiries or to order a set of tyres I can be contacted on 4226 1888 or 0425 349923.

Will provide bank details for direct deposit if necessary. Can arrange freight.

I think the MT website mentions ACTUAL widths on a fixed width measuring rim.

Adrian

Well!! was out a WSID last night to test out those drag radials!

Best run of the night with street tread:

60': 2.030

MPH: 107.90

ET: 12.663

Best run of the night with Drag Radials:

60': 1.751

MPH: 110.86

ET: 12.418

Pity it rained as the official said he'd get me in for another two runs!!! :P Could have easily done better times on the drag radials, but the car was experiencing some probs... it didn't really like that 100ron fuel.. oopss!!!

THANKS TO STUART AND THE BEZERKLY BOYS for giving me the oppourtunity to try out those radials... they definitely improved 60 foot times and i know my car could easily do 12.1/12.2 on a good day! :D
