I was just wondering about the drivetrain of the R32 GT-R and just curious about a few things. There are obviously was you can upgrade your differentials, but what exactly does 1.5 way, 2 way differentials means?

My other question is why is the front differential mechanical? wouldn't it be better to swap a viscous LSD in the front as well?

1, 1.5 and 2 way refers to how a mechanical diff works.

In 1 way it only locks up under acceleration (perfect for track work since it minimises understere)

In 2 way it locks up up acceleration and deceleration which is the sickest drift setup since in theory it is easier to lock the wheels.

1.5 has some lock up under brakes but not as much.

The standard GTR is a mechanical LSD (not sure how many way, I think 1) and can be tightened up you dont need to replace it

I am pretty sure the front diff is open so not mechanical or viscous. I personally work with the open one to reduce understeer out of corners under power and let the ATESSA controller handle the work instead.
