Hello

Whilst looking at skylines I came across the attached build plate.

post-21222-1142733053.jpg

After reading Merli's "I'm buying a Skyline... What should I look for?" thread...and remembering what he said about engraved build plates... I started to wonder if this is what he meant.

The NISSAN MOTOR CO, CHASSIS NO, MODEL, Katakana (Colour/Trim, Engine...) and Kanji are all printed, however the actual model numbers are engraved (BCNR33 041940, GGJP..., LP2 K).

Nissan Fast returns the following information (thanks BBGTR)

BCNR33 041940

GGJPRQFR33ZDAAAP-C

Prod. M/Y 9705

Colour: KH3

Int.Color: K

Clearly, the model numbers and paint code are different.

I've only seen a couple of build plates, however I can only assume that this is an example of a rebirthed car?

LP2 is Midnight Purple, which is a somewhat rare colour to get a GTR in... so if your car is currently Midnight Purple, i'd say that the car was originally supposed to be a Black GTR (KH3), but then the new car buyer asked for a different colour and options when he bought it. Usually the order goes back to the factory and a car is picked off the production line and modified.

Having the kanji and brand printed and the rest engraved is normal. I'll see if I can decode the model code so you can check with your car, but I have a strong suspicion that the difference will be upgraded parts.

In the meantime, what's the current colour of the car?

Hmmm, it'd be nice to know whether anyone else has found these anomalies?

The colour of the car is midnight purple, which I believe matches the paint code (LP2).

The car is a '97 GTR Vspec (finned diff) - series 3 (red stitching, ...).

hmm decoding your model code, according to FAST, its a regular GTR made in May 1997. According to the VIN plate its a GTR V-Spec (W in 6th pos = V Spec). According to FAST that car is just a GTR (Q = Regular GTR).

So if the car's got V Spec bits then someone's gone to a fair bit of effort to make sure that they pulled off a fake V Spec. I'd say its a car that was upgraded at the factory for a customer.

Are you sure abou this? , can anyone else confirm this , i thought the whole plate was meant to be printed and any engraved details indicated a fake

I saw 2 gtr's is the last 2 days one had full printed build plate the other was printed headings with engraved details

I really need a answer on this cause im in the same boat with looking at a car i think is dodgy

Ill have the build details for you guys to decypher later on today

The other more obvious thing to look at is the way the build plate is attached to the firewall. If it doesn't have the original plastic security rivvets be VERY careful & start asking hard questions.

Other than that I mine's engraved too & I've no reason to believe my car's been rebirthed, it was very thouroughly checked out before I bought it.
