ok, so if you refer to my other thread (http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=109753&hl=) you will see that i am going to bolt an rb25 turbo onto my rb20

i hate the thought of paying for labour costs, so i though to myself "what else can i get done while the turbo is off?"

so my questions is:

do you think its worth upgrading the exhaust manifold while the turbo is off?

--> i now those cheap ebay items can be nasty, but are they ok for this application?

--> what about doing an extrude hone? i have read somewhere previously that you can maximise flow without compromising the design and fast spooling of the stock manifold?

or am i pushing shit uphill with a pointed stick here?

also...

please no armchair tuners.. want advice from those wither either past experience or knowledge..

cheers,

Warren

PS sydneykid - where are you? help me out!

Hi warren - turbo shipped out to you on Friday; expect it mid-week.

Now, with the manifold, if going ebay probably best not to buy the new stainless steel ones, unless you are sure of the good quality in construction & benifits etc, so maybe go for a brand name unit 2ndhand direct from Japan...... best value for money, although shipping would cost around $100+ maybe.

Would take time to track a brand name item down tho.... =(

I have had an HKS low/rear mount cast manifold extrude honed. Looks good made, more power, also had it black ceramic coated so it looks nicer and sheds less heat.

You don't have to remove the exhaust manifold to swap turbos, but you have ot remove the dump. Have you upgraded it to a split one? Wrapped it back to the cat for heat retention?

:P cheers :)

i have a 3" dump/front in one already.. hardly see the point buying a split when i have a 3" one already

but that can be easily changed with the turbo on if i want to do it later..

my point with the exhaust manifold is that it will be very easily accessible with the turbo off, thus this might be the best (only) time i could get to it without removing hte turbo again..

how much would it cost to extrude hone an exhaust manifold?

would doing it to the stock manifold actually make any difference at all?

PS thanks for the reply sydneykid
