A better way of putting that would definitely be a good thing.

Considering that Thursday was my first time on a race track, I happen to think I did pretty well. You would know, being pretty experienced at EC yourself that the lines are not as you think they would be (turn 2 is a perfect example), and there's really only one way to get them right. Practice.

While I don't disagree it would have been good to have a more experienced driver riding shotgun to eliminate the "trial-and-error" aspect of the day, this wasn't available, so I made do on my own. Although you may not have meant for it to come out the way it did, it's pretty tactless to mention people by name in the manner you have done here though, regardless of who it is you're talking about.

It might put other new people off in future if they get the feeling that their lack of experience (and this is basically all it comes down to) is going to be talked about in such a manner.

Just a thought.

Carlo... wasn't having a go at you mate... I do appoligise if I have upset you in any way. I agree that you did a good job, and you even mentioned that at the time I caught you you were having a "moment" as you put it. Again... sorry for the poor wording... I've never been one with them and it often gets me into trouble!

I'm sure Dan didn't mean anything by that Carlo...

But I agree with him... It would have been better to put the newer drivers into group... Perhaps Group B or C, so they could go for a ride with people who have had a bit of track time at EC, without missing out on one of their sessions. By the same token, said "experienced" people could take shotgun in other cars to point out apexes and the proper lines without losing one of their sessions also.

By placing us all in the same Group, they effectively stopped the above from happening, as people understandably didn't really want to miss out on one of their sessions. Especially with a half-day, where you only get a handful.

Might be something to mention to the organisers next time Dan?

:D

Yeah, me three. I think seperate groups is the way to go in future so that we can do more passengering, and pass on our bad habits to each other.

The downside is, at least with our own group there's almost no dcikhead factor (except fatz...j/k) you can come across idiots in the other groups.

Whilst I know that Dan ment no harm by his comments, it was something I was concerned about and wanted to bring up.

Grouping people up into advanced and a B group is a fantastic idea, I my self next time have no issue with going A or even B again on this track because through out the day I got the hang of it and would be keen to start working on technique.

I was most impressed by the driving skills all of you displayed on thursday, your technique was visible from both a spectators point of view and your times.

Perhaps as more and more newbies are encouraged to come along to these events we can have more expirenced drivers explain the corners, the apex and why it is so. I think that expirence would be invaluable. I would definatly be doing this when I get my own technique down pat.

Once I have my brakes fixed up I shall be at the next track day, set on those records that you keep setting.

Fatz isn't a d*ckhead. I think the word "lunatic" describes him better.

When i first ventured onto the track, i appreciated the time by myslef with no pressure, just to get a feel for the car and the track.

When i thought i was at a level not to scare a pasenger, i grabbed a F3000 driver to show me around Wakefield.

My first time at Eastern was a Motoconcepts day, and found the instruction from their driving instructor great. Again i gave myslef two sessions then grabbed the instructor before learning too many bad habits.

Im all for getting advice from others, but dont forget there are paid professional available to us for free at Motoconcepts days.

Now that my car is so different to drive due to recent mods, ill be looking to get more tuition on how to get the most out of my car.

I heard Merli talking about Andrej in the Silver R33, apparently the car was Stockish, but blindingly fast. I suppose you would expect no less from a top line GTP driver.

    • That's a good point. The rears of the covers themselves have no baffling at all though. Higher up more chance of air for venting the crank case. Lower on the side more likely to be submerged. I might be able to fit them on the sides but with both the sump drain fittings being on the drivers side the passenger one will need to make a U Turn and be nearer the turbo. But it will look neat being not up on top.
    • It won't likely matter where along the cam covers you put the big fittings. I would suggest putting them on the sides if you can, simply because it will reduce the flow up through the baffles and thus reduce the amount of oil that gets put into the foam. It might not matter, but it seems like something to consider as a worthwhile thing to avoid.
    • Well, I have my IM240 results with a cammed LS1... My Nox was 0.11 and my CO g/km was 0.2. Euro4 is 0.08 and 0.1 respectively. I'm gonna say for a stock RB this is actually plausible, BUT in Australia they were complied pre-Euro2, so the limits were: Which as you can see, is way higher. I'd say a stock RB with a new OEM Cat could? actually pass Euro4 for NOX but you'd probably have to do a hell of a lot of testing to prove it, and getting a car emissions tested and carrying a certificate of emissions when/if you get pulled over may be cost prohibitive if it's even allowable to get your car tested and re-classified. You'd have to find out what the UK Govt is using as reference material. It may be non-negotiable.
    • I made a little more progress last night and added some E85 safe fuel tank baffle foam in behind the stock cam cover baffle plate.  It still feels really wrong shoving foam inside the engine but apparently its fine based on it pretty much being the MINES/Hi-Octane RB26 cam baffle kit and the few posts here I have found of people doing it and the lack of posts saying the foam broke down and ruined the motor... Still plan to check it frequently though lol The last step for this round of oil control modifications I plan to make is to add some -12AN fittings to the cam covers and connect them to some (already existing luckily) -12AN fittings on the sump. Basically a sudo head drain/sump breather/pressure equaliser without having to remove the motor and do the one on the rear of the head. My plan is to add them to either the tops or the sides of the cam covers at the back. unless there is a compelling reason to have them at the front on the sides which i have seen a few times though they were all on RB26 cam covers from memory so that may be due to the stock breathers being on the back and the integral baffle being different ?
