Im currently in the process of aquiring a shiny new silver gts25t, and am wondering whether to purchase a warranty.

On the one hand I am aware of some glaring ommissions that some warranties have (clutch plates, radiators etc), however I cant help but feel that I should have some 'insurance' against the fact that I have never even seen the vehicle.

Anyone have any opinoins/experiences on the used car warranties out there?

(btw, I looked for another thread on this topic but could not find one. if such a thing exists, I apologise)

Yep go the warranty, if the engine blows after 2000k ud be lookin the right fool with no warranty.

I think it is standard for a car over 2k to have a 6mnth 5000k warranty. Most places u can buy the 2 year warranty for extra but y bother? if its gonna blow its gonna do it in the first 5000 as long as u drive it hard enuff.

I have had a negative experience with extended aftermarket warranty. I won't slander the company - don't need a lawsuit right now, but they're better known for making oil/fuel additives that you buy in servos & auto shops. Many years ago I bought a used EA Falcon - now regarded as one of the greatest lemons of all time...ahhh the wisdom of hindsight. within 3 months blew the head gasket, rooted radiator and stuffed ECU (about $900 just for ECU!). anyway the warranty wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. Realistically it only covered engine internals. RB sixes are super-tough. the biggest cause of engine destruction is detonation & would be evidenced on strip-down - negating your warranty. Aftermarket extended warranties are a cash-cow & a good candidate for A Current Affair.

My Tuppence.

i bought a car and had new car warrenty. The gearbox blew. They said i was quickshifting and abusing it so they didnt fix it.

Simply new car warrentys are a marketing thing. I coulnt do anything to this certain car manuafacturer. tried to get the RAA involved. Nothing helped.

So my opinion is that car warrentys are bullocks cos those cun ts can pretty much just say anything against u, and i know people are gonna disagree with wat im sayin, but this is my first hand experience, so its not gonna change if someones next door neigbours cousins aunties friend got there car fixed under new car warrenty etc

My 2c

Bought my r33 6 months ago. The All States 3 year warranty was already included in the price of the car. The dealer has the same warranty on all his cars. The asking price of his cars are negotiable so it's not as if you strike a deal, then he adds the price of the warranty on top. I guess he does it to make the package more appealing. He says he makes bugger all on the warranty, it just helps the owner to have some decent cover on their vehicle.

He says that he has found the All States mob to be very reasonable to deal with. I guess I will find that out if I need to make a claim.

The items they cover and the amounts they pay per item is all listed in the warranty manual and seems to be fair.

I guess it would be reasonable to assume that in the case of a claim where the owner actually caused the damage, then the warranty company could refuse to cover that claim. I would suggest that warranties in general are for natural failure of the components and not ones abuse or neglect of the vehicle.

As much as I don't like insurance companies, we must be reasonable when making claims.

All States just have recommended repaires here in the West and I'm led to believe that there is generally no hassles when making a claim with this mob.

Sorry about the long winded post but check out the warranty manual and see for yourself the extent of their cover and judge for yourself. If you decide to get this cover, let me know as I can give you my dealers contact detail, because I know he doesn't charge anywhere near what some others charge for the same warranty.

This ones for Enrico Palazzo. A coicidence with the name, My first name is also Enrico although I use Ric. My mothers maiden name was Palazzo. Far out.

My surname is the same as the great opera singer.. you should be able to work that one out. Dad probably thought I would become a tenor with a name such as that.

No , it's not.

Cheers

Ken

I had some broken shocks etc fixed under warranty and had my brakes machined etc aswell. Although he didnt really jump at the chance he still did it and i got to pick the mechanic.

Correct me if im wrong but does "Palazzo" mean like "palace or house or something like that" as in "Palazzo Vechio"???

Have you read all the terms/condition of these warranties. You have to have your car services by approved people and send them the paperwork all buy certain dates. And then there is not much even covered buy them in the end. Deffinately dont waste your time.

If your buying a car and they say it comes with a warranty, tell them you dont want it and to take $1000 off the price. Remember you are buying a nissan.

Clint32,

you obviously haven't had a good look at the All States warranty manual, I have one right here in front of me.

The requirement on servicing is that it has to be done in accordance with manufacturers specifications by a qualified mechanic at intervals not exceeding 10,000km or 6 months, which ever occurs first and the coupons and a copy of mechanics invoice to be sent to All states by the due date.

Hardly a problem I would suggest. It's the type of servicing anyone would have done to their car anyway, I would have thought. Some people try to save money and not have servicing done regularly and then wonder why they have problems with their cars.

The items they cover and the amounts they pay and exclusions are clearly listed and I would suggest it is a fair deal.

The maximum amount they pay Per claim is $2,000 (Royal cover)

The exclusions such as lack of lubricants, coolants etc listed, are no different to new car warranties. These warranties are basically designed for normal mechanical failure and like new car warranties exclude certain consumable items. Warranties are not ment to cover ones negligence or careless use of the vehicle.

So if you are prepared to take a chance and not have some kind of warranty, then it's your tough luck if you get burned.

And further more, I've seen what my dealer paid for this warranty and it was well below the $1000.00 mark you suggested. I've seen one of the biggest dealers in Perth charge $1500 for the same thing.

And if you think that Nissans are immune to failure then think again.

    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps

    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
    • I think it's bound to happen, you finally get it all perfect, and bam, something will happen. I took a while to get a Commodore rear quarter repaired where a P Plater clipped it. Two days after getting it back, Sarah wiped it out on a concrete pillar in an underground car park... This is why I take forever to repair them, it stretches how long until it gets bent again... 😛
    • Nah, not really responsible for that little fiasco, but I'm still pissed at myself for writing off my 86, or when I reversed my VX into a pole just before selling it, but, meh, 5hit happens to stuff, all it takes is a slight distraction, and life is full of distractions, and "dooh" moments
