hmm well DiRTgarage not that ive ever met you though from your internet prowess your hektik

as for my correcting people on other threads i was hoping people would have more of a brain to mix drag tyre's with radials yes plain stupid not my doing though some people you hope should know better

like a comitted drag racer with a car trying to do 140+mph yet not running a chute ???

like the vipec has better data logging than motec ??? when will we see vipec in v8 super car ??? with it's 4mb logging ???

and when you take ownership and say there "our" cars take some ownership when they f**k up and dont just blame others for there shortcomings when your said to be in you team who plumbs blowby back into the intake ?????? even on a big hp road car ???

as for humor i commented in the winterhnats thread and said something like "doesn't vipec come with a chute function" and your reply via PM was

DiRTgarage

ok 510...looking back the vi-pec chute comment was pretty funny. My PM to you was just that...a private message...understand? Repeating something said in private publicly is a bit stiff.

You chose to come after me...if you dont like the return serve then get off the court.

What is the relevance to the thread of posting up your spec sheet? on topic? lol...read the thread title.

yes big error on my behalf to overlook the set-up on the car...but hey...a couple of lessons learnt there.

Come and say hi at Jamboree...l dont hold a grudge.

LOL, what a great thread. Don't have any TV soaps worth watching here in India so this is good :(

So much snipering...

All GTR owners should simply move to Vic, for whatever reasons engines dont spin bottom ends down here and need all the sooper dooper setups cars up north need ? :(

ummm nickR33 would disagree! :( 1st day out in his new GTR = bottom end goneski, but not back better than ever I hear. :)

Hey! I used to play tennis! Good game.....lol but racing cars is more fun IMO :( :( :)

Not that it has anything to do with this thread...but what the hell...

ok so that was my attempt of slightly clearing the atmosphere :) oh no dig there either mate...just liked that line!

You can say that again Baron :) ...but powder room gossip tells me Nicks "tale of woe" had more to do with a much bigger problem then anyway in which the engine was built or what it was doing :)

ooooh tell me the gossip!

the engine in my car was built back in '02 before many of the oil control mods had been developed... I should have been overfilling it with oil but I was checking the level first thing in the morning before it had been run so all oil was in the sump (level was up to the hump but not a 'true' reading)... apparently its best to check them after its been running for a few minutes... it was mostly due to human error, it should have had more oil in it basically :)

The engine was in great condition when it was stripped down... bores+pistons were perfect it was just the one bearing that had been picked up and the crank was obviously damaged... it could have been on the way out when I bought the car but other than send oil away for analysis how do you check the condition of the bottom end prior to purchase? pretty difficult if its not making any noises

there are plenty of people in Vic who have had broken engines they just don't talk about it on public forums... I don't really care and I also know not to try and put blame on others for my mistakes... sometimes you f*ck up and get away with it and other times you get bent over

Its back on the road now and running sweetly... only real damage has been to my motorsport budget for this year... which is now no longer in existance, hence I will not be on a track until next year or I will be getting a divorce... tempting but I can wait lol :)

lol...maybe i should have tried tennis...my bank account probably wishes i did. :)

If anyone has any idea's or tips on oil control or mods for a CA18 let me know or post here (i know title says RB's but its an RB's baby brother) as im building one up at the moment for a bit of fun. I understand oil cooler is almost mandatory on these things. Do i just follow the same general rules as i have been for the RB's or do they need something extra ? .

do they need something extra ? .

Couple more cylinders would be nice :)

I cant say ive heard of much oil troubles or how to fix them...so id say just the usual prep for any engine, De burr the galleries etc, good sump and breather system

generally the same principles, we have a few CA drift cars making low 300rwkw reliably, nice TIGHT bearing clearances, the sump is VERY important (more so than rb) as the stock one is total junk... run a restrictor size is Dependant on rpm and uses.

Your problem was you sold your GTSt not to buy an RB20 but to buy a GTR! :D ... sorry mate, i was gutted when i read what happened at DECA, such a sweet car

yep I'm a silly, silly man... was going to keep it and run both cars but talked myself out of it as we moved into an apartment that only had a single car space (and we already had 2 cars)... looking back on it the GTSt had rubbish paint and wouldn't have mattered leaving it outside... ah well hindsight is always perfect... I do miss the rwd fun, that car had a Cusco diff that made it a ball to hang the rears out

now I'm seriously thinking about an RB20 R32 banger for track stuff... I must be mad

back on topic... how about that oil hey, crazy stuff.............. :iluvff:

I'd just like to personally thank Gary for putting all his hard work and testing into this thread in the first place, I for one have used his ideas with great success and no doubt would have learned the hard way if it wasn't for him. I really hope the the personal attacks and negative comments don't stop you from posting up any useful info in the future Gary.

Make the sump bigger and strip the paint off the inside of it, every second one I've seem seems to have peeling paint around the underside of the baffles, even after just a quick clean in the spin wash. I've welded up a box and fitted a modified version of the swinging gate baffles I put in the 26 sumps and it seems to work fine, around 6 litres from empty.

Greg, Trent...would it be possible to post some pics of what you guys use.

thanks in advance

    • Nah, the car seems to run exactly as it did prior, in saying this it does "seem" to be better down low, like more eager to rev, but that may be 100% placebo effect from intake noise But, I'm not worried about it at all, in the end it is a fairly low compression NA engine that has a well shrouded intake,  if it is getting hotter IAT I cannot notice anything negative performance wise from the seat of my pants thrashing it about on the street or sitting in traffic, so meh, car now now makes induction noise so I'm happy
    • Do you have an IAT sensor? It's worth checking it to see. You may be suprised how little gap you actually need to flood your engine with hot air. (I tape up my airbox for a reason) :p
    • @KinkstaahKrinkle paint the "silver" alloy, not the red filter frame Engine bay heat won't be a issue worth worrying about as the silver alloy blocks it off on 3 sides, as for the top, the bonnet seals most of it and the big OEM CAI intake snorkel is still fitted in its original position  I will head into Clark's Rubber when I have some time to grab some pinch weld to tidy up the alloy after I paint it As for performance, I honestly wasn't expecting any, the only reason I got it is because the intake noise sounds cool to my old ears when I'm feeding it the beans Sometimes it's the silly things you do in in life that gives the most fun, and I do love anything that makes cool car noises In other news: I survived 4 nights at sea with Jackie not throwing me over board, holidays are continuing now as we are currently chilling at the Beachcomber in Toukley, after taking the coast roads from Sydney in the MX5, top down all the way, Toukley is where I spent a good deal of my youth holidaying during the summer months, there's lots of reminiscing going on,  and lots of beaches and old houses to visit Next on the list is to head to Batemans Bay for a few days, but we will take the Commodore out to stretch its legs, then Commodore hasn't really moved for months
    • There’s probably people who’d like to do it and then when it comes to putting their hands in their pockets they’ll all disappear into the shadows
    • interesting....sounds like the later trans has software differences (or AM vs JDM). If I wasn't going down the tuning route it would be worth looking into retrofitting a new computer to the old box.
