hey guys, i was just wondering what the easiest way is to identify an L.S.D on an R34 GT-t, without just baggin em up, as its not my car. i'm pretty sure its an LSD, as wen ma mate plants it, the back comes around very quick, when he launches, it even steps out a bit, but another mate of mine keeps tellin me that its not, coz he cant find a tag on the diff itself (and hes a mechanic that deals with quite a few skylines, so i cant just tell him hes plain rong, i want some evidence). is there anythin in the VIN number that will tell u if its an LSD or not? like on the supras? is there something i need to look at on the diff itself?

cheers,

Ben

jack the rear.

turn wheel by hand.

both go same way lsd.

different ways not lsd..

yeh i thought about that, got anything easier? i really cbf with that, u see, im kinda the lazy type, and i dont like workin with those bodgy wind up jacks personally. ma mate would probly freak and not let me jack it up anyway... he doesnt know all that much wen it comes to cars, and panics wen anyone touches something, if he doesnt know wot it is himself... basically everything. thanks for the tip, and keep the ideas comin

cheers,

Ben

your mate should be able to tell, just from the feel of it when launching / kicking the tail out a bit. When you kick it out, it should stay out if you get my drift (pun intended), if it just goes straight, or you notice one wheel spinning on the spot, then it's not an lsd.

Or going up driveways slowly, or driving on a dirt road that's bumpy, you should be able to notice it single-spinning if it's an open diff.

Also, i thought all turbo skylines had a factory lsd?

I think if you jack up one side, with car in neutral, should be hard to turn the wheel that's off the ground. (be careful because if it's an lsd it'll try to turn the wheel that's on the ground, just make sure wheels are chocked and car doesn't try and roll off the jack....)

c'mon man, it'll take 5 mins! that's pretty lazy...

hitting friend with spanner sounds like a good idea. all GTT's come with factory LSD.

sometimes HICAS on GTTs can make it seem that it has an LSD because how easily the back kicks out.

try full lock to the right when pointing up a hill and just plant it, 1 wheel burn out = no lsd, 2 wheel burnout = more fun... plus LSD.

    • Well, your RB20 ECU loom won't have wires for the boost solenoid, that boost sensor, and possibly one or two other things. There could be differences in seemingly random things like the charcoal canister purge solenoid, because the 25DET has to handle boost in the vacuum system and the 20DE does not. I don't know - I haven't looked. It is very likely that all the most important things are same-same, being the main sensors like AFM, CAS, etc, and the injectors and ignition. Not that you'll need the AFM for the Haltech anyway. I would suggest that you would seriously want to sit down with the pinouts for both ECUs and just go through them and highlight green what is the same, orange what is different/missing, and make a plan from there. It's not going to be difficult. It will either be the same or need to be fixed.
    • yeaaa that's why I haven't done any wiring to the stock ecu harness because I have the haltech, but then that leads me to the other question of "is the pnp harness really plug and play?" or would I have to still switch some pins/wires over because the pnp is for the rb25det neo harness, and not for the rb20de neo harness. was really hoping to find something to spoon feed me since so many people have done rb20neo + t conversions, but man this is rough.
    • Temu raptor, lol. At least the owner isn't your typical ranger danger lot
    • They definately are coming back around, so many GTRs coming through again with them.
    • Besides which. If you have a Haltech waiting - don't waste your time and effort and money trying to get the boost sensor. Just f**k the stock ECU off and put the Haltech in. Then you won't need the boost sensor.
