Mine does the same thing.

Before I got the car they had replaced the pads.....but did not machine the disk which are quite grooved.

Run your finger over the disk's (when cold). They should be smooth.

Mine, mainly the rear have lots of grooves.

So I will be up for a machine and some new pads in the next few weeks, as once the pads have bedded into non-machine disks they are stuffed.

I priced some new Disk's (Rotors) new and they are about.

Front $245 each

Rear $273 each.

Would be better getting some from a second hand parts dealer and having them machined.

Having said that though, as the disks are quite thick there should be no problem in getting them machined.

And do not fit metallic pads as they will wear out the disk's faster. Even though they work much better.

I have just taken the pads out to check them and they seemed fine. I put them back in and went for a spin....the noise had gone.

Could it be possible that the brakes weren't releasing all the way or something like that? If this could be the problem why is it fine now after I took the pads out and put them back in?

      I definitely agree with you there - I never click on content for cars I would never ever be able to get or compete with/against/be seen next to. Seeing a MX5 compete with a FD RX7 will make people upset though, for sure. Even in 2.5L Turbo form which is pretty grass roots. (or at least as grass roots as classic cars can be) Yes we're all classic car owners now.

      People don't always want builds that are overly expensive, or have engineering/registration/insurance issues and head aches that come with them Whilst big dollar builds, and complicated stuff is interesting to watch, there is only a tiny % of people who would actually use this information, or have the spare finances to drop on said builds, whereas the buy a cheap(ish) cool car, and make it better, with a average budget, that the average Joe or Jane could achieve will always be a winner in my opinion

      Bit of a thread revival, you mentioned wanting a bit more top end before, do you regret not going with the 1.01?

      It's kind of interesting - They definitely do builds that split the difference between what they like and what will generate views and engagement. The NC Platform always surprises everyone in a good way, in an uncomfortably good way some may say. They could throw a LS in there and arguably have the best (and best performing) car of the entire stable. But that isn't necessarily what draws views, because people viewing don't want to accept the vegetables of a LS NC MX5 being a superior vehicle in every way (including fun) than a RB26 240Z. This is also why there's not a lot of content about the GR Yaris (on the web in general). They're too good, yet 'only a Yaris' The community doesn't want certain cars to be as good as they are - to beat their hero cars, and I believe the NC MX5 is absolutely one of those cars.
