Hi all ;-)

My parents on the Gold Coast are after a new wagon.

They've noticed the Stagea at various dealers, but have some questions.

As they are in their 60's, they aren't looking at any aftermarket add-ons, just a plain old Stagea wagon.....

1. Where do they get it serviced? Nissan/ specialists?

2. Will servicing costs be waaay more than say, a Liberty wagon?

3. What goes wrong?

4. Are they reliable? i.e ATESSA, turbo etc etc.

They would be looking at something with less than 60K

Have tried to search for this info, but no dice, so I thought you guys could help.

BTW, am myself looking @ getting a nice 4 door R34 here in Tas.. Haven't seen one yet ;-)

1. They can be serviced by any half decent mechanic. Even I can do the basic service myself, and if I can do that then anyone can :P

2. Well depends on the mechanic and how much they want to con you out of your money. I would not think it would cost any more than any other 6 cyl wagon?

3. Depends on the car, something went majorly wrong with my car that could not be forseen, (a suspension part failure), and cost a lot to be repaired, thank god for insurance.

4. I had my R33 skyline for 2.5 years, and in that time I did my best to destroy it, I didnt know what mechanical sympathy was. I flogged the crap out of it and it took it all. My opinion is that Skylines/Stagea's are well over enginnered and can take a pounding, and if your parents wont be doing any mods, then they shouldnt have a problem if they get one in good condition. Again with any type of used car there is a possibility that they get a lemon, that is just the way it is. So try to get it inspected thoroughly by eithr RACQ or a trusted mechanic.

Oh and tell them to wave to other stagea owners and sign up here :D

3 What goes wrong?

Try looking through the skyline sections, they have identical engines, so anything that goes wrong with a skyline will likely go wrong with the stagea. Saying that, i just ticked over 160,000km on mine last night, and the only problem i've had has been my alternator dying. everything else is still stock standard in the engine and it runs fine.

This applies to 4. Are they reliable? as well. i don't think many stageas will have this many km on them. proof nissan build good engines
