Yeah rev i agree again champ i have found myself that when my boost was at 10psi from 12psi i had more power band and early respones aswell

Its more interesting to have not much power and run fast times

You need to build an auto and do that up and flog all the manuals just to show how it can be done

did you sell the gtr and wat 4 you next?

What does that have to do with what i said?

i was comparing different dynos... congratulations your car was on one that was realistic. Then again 1/4 times and rwkw dont have a hell of a lot to do with eachother... obviously your car is well set up, there are plenty out there that arent

yeah but i was saying is 205rkw realistic in comparisin with 13.1@105mph? or should it be into the 12s with that power?

Well a guy on the forums ran a 12.9 with a similar setup to you and 207rwkw on stock turbo... me on the other hand ran a 13.8 @105 with 244rwkw, there is something wrong with my car but what is it? incorrect dyno? setup? clutch? thats all im saying, and my car has been on a few different dynos with the same tune pulling very different figures. The car drove 100% and with fantastic power delivery, so dynos dont tell the whole story..

hi flowed turbo
15psi is too high and will cause turbocharger failure (on the stock one)
Don't need to run 15psi. If you kill the turbo's ceramic exhaust wheel

Need to read, people.

200 is an easy target for your mods. you'll have a nice strong tune that you wont have to worry about every time you fill up. But my bet is you'll want more once you realise you can have it :D Damn power bug!

Your right, 200rwkw is EASY with your mods.... you could have plenty more power with that boost as well

Here's my 2c.

When you go to a dyno, go to tune the car and completely ignor the peak power values. That way you can appreciate the difference from when you drive in to when you drive out.

105 mph does not relate to a real 244rwkw. I'd just forget about that figure and understand that comparing dyno graphs peak values is really like comparing used toilet paper.... its all crap.

I do agree, but that is not taking into consideration that there may have been other problems on the night... even the fact that i am a crap driver...

I believe the only time to compare dyno figures is on the same dyno under the same conditions... e.g taking your car in for a tune and doing a before and after dyno run to obtain a real comparisson.

All I can say is that 'on the night' if that was your best run you didn't have the 244rwkw, I mean you were a very very very long way off. That mph isn't even 180rwkw. So unless that night your car 'felt' amazingly low on power it's best not to trust the peak dyno reading. Hell never pay any mind to them anyway.

It's the peak values that aren't worth bothering with, as such comparing one car with anothers peak power reading as per a dyno day where only the peak horsepower is written up. So in this most common of 'same day' dyno comparisons most people are wasting thier time.

yeah i know, something was wrong... your spot on with the 180rwkw as there was another skyline with that figure running the same times and terminal speed i.e 13.8@105mph.

since that tune i have wound the boost up and am making only 231rwkw but the car is twice as quick!! so i couldnt agree with your more!

well just for reference, my car had a bad tune a while back and was only making 180rwkw on 1.30bar of boost. <it was a road tune, then went to a silvia dyno day and got that figure>

the went to WSID did 14flat@103mph with a 2.4 60ft BUT on the night i couldn't hit 1.30bar of boost only managed to peak at 1.16bar therefore <180rwkw.

since i have sorted out the boost problem(avc-r still set on LEARN gear, and boost vac line died recently, all cleared up)

last dyno run i did with a dyno tune was [email protected], [email protected].

BUT heading off to WSID tomorrow night to confirm those numbers.

MY CAR IS SLOW!!.. i CAN'T DRIVE!.. 103-104mph and can't get into 13's!!!..............

SUMMARY.

BEFORE

Road Tune Only (avc-r still set on learn gear damnit!)

Not doing a burnout driving around the water/burn out wet patch, running OLD bridgestone RE540s or something no much thread 33psi tyre pressure

Date: 6/07/2005 Power: [email protected] Max Boost Hit: 1.16 Bar

Time 60ft R/T ET MPH Air Temp

7:15PM 2.525 0.332 14.276 103.17 13

8:25PM 2.738 0.550 14.510 102.89 12

9:30PM 2.431 0.338 14.075 103.09 11

10:28PM 2.470 0.413 14.200 102.38 10

After this got a dyno tune [email protected] [email protected]

THEN

Spark Plugs/Coil packs failed me alot of misfiring

SAU dyno day, couldn't run 1.30bar or 1.00bar had to turn off the avc-r EBC and ending up getting

181rwkw@10psi spiking to 12.5psi around 5000-5500.

THEN change spark plugs to copper and gapped to 0.65mm solved misfiring problem for now, resulting in the following

Not doing a burn out 30psi tyre pressure just spining 1st gear to get the water off the tyres.

255/40/17" Dunlop Formula RSV 98-spec

Date: 29/03/2006 Power: est [email protected] Boost: 1.35 Bar

Time 60ft R/T ET MPH Air Temp Max Boost Spike

7:17PM 2.494 0.231 14.381 103.75 23 1.25

7:54PM 2.290 0.502 14.176 103.26 22 1.26

8:36PM 2.491 0.103 14.287 103.56 22 1.24

9:26PM 2.418 0.081 14.282 104.01 22 1.30Bar

9:50PM 2.394 0.305 14.290 104.24 22 1.35Bar

Btw its either my turbo is too small t3/t4(0.60 a/r front 0.58 rear) or something else is wrong, boost will spike to that amount then tapper off really bad after 5000rpm so 18psi ---> 12psi by redline

TIME TO GET A BIGGER TURBO... OR UPGRADE TO A GTR!!! hahaha..

No just set your boost controller up corectly

with an ebc you should not be spiking the waste gate is staying closed 4 to long and you sling shot past the proper boost level

also power band wont be as long

wat mods do you have

T3/t4 Turbo Front 0.60A/r rear 0.58a/r

fmic, avc-r(ebc), Powerfc, 550cc injectors, cp forged pistons, metal head gasket(compression believd to be around 8.5:1) N1 oil pump, custom 3" dump/front pipe highflow cat, fujisubo catback. ORC 4.8Kg flywheel exceedy h/d clutch, sard fuel pressure reg, hks ssqv bov, trust pod, hpi engine damper, whiteline sways, kyb hillclimb shock and spings(worn) running rear camber of around -1.5degress(non adjustable).

i reckon i need to fix my camber so there is more contact with the ground, DO a BURNOUT like MONA said.. sorry mona (after stalling it can't be F**ked doing it,.. next time haha). so i can improve on my 60ft as they are shocking! 2.3-2.5eesh.

AND then a BIGGER TURBO!!!..

All that and you are only pushing 210rwkws (like you said stock turbo wont be helping)

i no dynos dont tell the real story but with thos mods you should be doen a low 13 to high 12 and

Have you read revs 13 1/4 thread and 12 sec thread

they are up there with the best threads

wat tyres and rims are you using

I think that you will find that your main killer is the 60 ft.

every point taken off the 60ft = to 2 points at the end of the track.

So if you get your 2.5 down to 2.0 you will shave up to a whole second off your time which is much more realistic for your power.

With my rb30det with a small turbo (not stock) i was making about 210 rwkw and i managed to get a 12.9 at 108mph. i did 4 runs 13.3sec with 2.3 2.2 60ft as soon as i got a 2.0 60 ft i ran the 12.

Look into it. Because it will help HEAPS if you fix your 60ft.

:P

<its not stock turbo, its a T3/T4 aftermarket but doesn't appear to be very big and not holding boost after 5000rpm>

Rims: 17x9 Sparcos with Dunlop Formula RSV 98-spec 255/40/17 with only 1500kms on them.

Suspension: Worn KYB Hillclumb shock and springs (ride sitting about 1 inch lower then standard)

Whiteline Rear Swaybars set on soft.

Factors causing my shocking 60ft's where i can see improvements.

1. Me - learn how to do a proper burnout, as i was only spinning them in first gear to clear the water from the tyres but an actual burnout on the spot.

2. Rear camber is sitting at -1.5degrees Left & Right so out of the 255 tyre i say only 225/235 is actually touching the game.

3. Install the set of pineapples i have at home to get more swat.

4. go to WSID more often and practice practice and practice.

Personally based on my Terminal speeds of 103/104mph with a proper 60ft it should be capable of Low 13's High 12's right what do you guys reckon??

No.

you need a few more mph. Around 13.4 or so if you have say a 2.1 60ft all else being equal.

Ummm, no

104mph is good enough to run a 12 using std turbo. I've done it on my old set up which had 190rwkw (give or take a few either way depending on the dyno used).

    • @soviet_merlin Thanks mate!  Nothing too major but will hold me up for a while. I've got lymphomas to get taken off the back of my neck and the middle of my spine which always conjures scary thoughts!  It sounds worse than it is. Yeah great, conjuring more rabbit hole deepening , just what I need! 🤣
    • I'd argue the F50 kit I got is very good value. For ~2k I got the calipers (refurbed condition), adapters, pads, brake lines, rotors, and top hats. I think you'd be pretty hard to get Evo/GTR/350z brembos + the additional hardware for similar money. Used market for a pair of front calipers alone I've seen tend to run anywhere from $1500-2000 depending on condition.    That said, something like a GTR or 350z brembo is a lot easier to adapt to the Silvia.
    • Is there a significant price difference between the Evo/gtr/350z brembos vs the F50? Looks amazing.
    • I was actually being a tightarse at the time LOL... My OCD is tickling me into running a 2nd 8AN Teflon hose all the way down and removing the 2x OEM hardlines. My other side of my brain is telling me to run 2x hardlines front to back (also acts as a fuel cooler, so win win).
    • As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had some trouble with the Silvia's brakes dragging back in 2023. I managed to sort it out then, but the same problem came back to bite me late last year. Just take a look at the picture – I had a feeling the handbrake was acting up again, and I was right. Anyway, I'd been wanting to upgrade to bigger brakes for a while. Not that the Silvia's brakes were bad, but it was more of a "want" than a "need", you know? It was funny, though – at the time, I couldn't find any Evo Brembos, 350Z Brembos, or GTR Brembos for a decent price (of course, tons of them popped up online after I already bought my kit!). I ended up going with an F50 Brembo kit, which came with adapters, brake lines, 330mm rotors, and top hats. The F50 Brembo caliper was used in a few other cars too, like the FPV. I also decided this was the perfect opportunity to ditch the Silvia's ridiculous rear brakes and that awful handbrake (some of you were definitely right about that!). I picked up some R33 calipers and all the necessary bits – rear drums, backing plates, and new hardware to refurbish the calipers. Of course, it wouldn't be a project without a few hiccups. Turns out the brake master cylinder was playing up and basically (to put it simply) keeping the brakes engaged. I had it overhauled, and after some adjustments, everything was working again. The whole process took a while, as you can imagine. To top it off, the front right wheel bearings were shot and needed replacing too. This is a rare occasion where I'm posting an update while it's all still fresh! These pictures were taken just this afternoon.
