hey all, im extremely interested in purchasing a cefiro with an rb20DET manual and shoehorning an rb25 (engine and gearbox)with mods in its place. I have seen a few with this conversion done, but i cannot find a thread discussing the costs involved (minus engine) and what is needed to be modified in order for this conversion to be successfull? Is it even worth the expense? does anyone know what the weight diference is between the two engines? any info would be great, thanks guys!

it should pretty much bolt straight up... :S

if u get 25det gearbox also then only slight mods are needed to get this to fit in the car (check substitute parts section as there is a write up on this)

just need to change the loom and computer to suit - possibly auto electrician to wire up other complications

... but realisitically it shouldnt be that hard to do...

Gibbau - Give me 2 weeks and I will give you all the answers you require :D Currently doing the conversion as we speak! SEE SIG :(

But there are so many variables that can effect the costing of this conversion -

1. Are u doing the conversion urself or paying a mechanic

2. R33 gearbox, new one or 2nd hand

3. RB25 ECU or piggy back

4. Various sundires - New timing belt, filters, machining flywheel, flushing radiator......

Really depends on whether u want a quick "Wham Bham thank you mame" or a setup that will last!

For example, including cost of engine & gearbox + a lot of other add-ons, I am budgetting for around $8000

Check my thread, "Should I 1JZ in Cefiro' for a bit of an idea what i am doing!

Hi

If you want an RB25 Ceffy, buy the rb20 NA auto Ceffy currently on ebay for less than $5,000 and modify.

Extra cost will be brakes (but you need to go to R33 anyway) and diff. Oh plus hand brake, console and pedals.

Agree it is expensive, although, I did the front mount, 3"exhaust and front bumper at the same time!

Basically have to do water pump, seals and timing belt no matter what and suggest you do exhaust manifold gasket at the same time. All builds up. Also gearbox yoke (need from R33 tail shaft) and fit to tail shaft and speedo drive (as they are different, people use R32 GTR or Navara)

Good luck
