Hey guys,

I just thought I would ask the question to y'all cause i don't know whether this idea sounds like a big wank or not.

I'm going to be selling my 33 in the next month or so and I was thinking about who might be interested in my car and I came to the conclusion that it most probably will be a young guy 18-25. And reading lately about young drivers and inexperience it got me to thinking;

Would the inclusion of a driver training day in the sale of my car increase my chances of selling?

By driver training day I mean a day out on the LVMA (Large Vehicle Maneuvering Area) running round cones, brake testing etc... and maybe a skidpan session. I was just thinking I could get a gift voucher from the people that run them and include that with the car. Cost maybe 2-3 hundred bucks.

I've done a couple of these and apart from having the time of my life I learnt something every time I went out there. And this practical knowledge saved my ass only last week. It was very wet, and I was going round a corner on the crest of a hill and my back end completely swung out. I was able to control the slide and bring it back around whilst slowing down a little then straighten up and not collect oncoming traffic or the gutter. I reckon years ago when I first started driving i would have stomped on the brakes and been a passenger ending up facing the wrong way in oncoming traffic or something.

I think we would all agree that we don't want anymore negative press involving skylines and young drivers, let alone anymore fatalities or injuries that could possibly be averted. And if you were a parent with a kid who was looking at buying their first turbo car would you be more at ease if you knew they were going to get some instruction and training in what to do when....

Sorry its so long people, thanks for reading. Any comments would be much appreciated.

i doubt it would increase your chances of selling... its probably the last thing someone would look for when buying a car...

in any case...

you've conviced me to go and do one of these courses :D

Its not something I'd go for. Throwing it in will not make someone buy your car.

On the other hand - if I'm going to buy the car, I'm going to buy it regardless. If driver training is thorwn in with that car then I guess thats not a bad thing.

I think your head is definitely in the right place with this, but the actualities of it probably wouldn't work out so well.

A lot of the drivers that are the troublesome ones are the egotistic "won't happen to me, I'm 18, I can drive as well as somebody 30 years old" - so this sort of thing goes straight over their head.

I know when you sell a car you've cared for and put a lot of effort, and probably time into, and probably some customisation to make it 'yours' its hard to let it go to somebody young, where it might be wrapped around a tree next week.

You could always give it a try..

Ideas like this are good though.. the Governments(s) should be pretty much make this *mandatory* with any transfer of a car over say a certain power/weight - and say somebody who hasn't done the test in 3 years or something. Would save quite a few lives... over the bullshit 'speed kills', and all the rest.

This didn't make a lot of sense to me......

From the above comment, it seems like you didn't benefit much from the driver training.

If you had, you wouldn't have been taking a corner in the wet at such a speed that your back end would "completely swing out". :D

I don't see a lot of point in spending money on something which isn't roadworthy related.

If you fork out the money for the course, the person who ends up buying the car may not be interested in doing it.

I was shocked that it did as I drive that road twice daily but thats human error for you. Familiarity is not always good. A cop once told me that many accidents happen within 2km of home because you're so familiar with the roads you don't pay as much attention. I made a mistake, plain and simple. But the fact that that mistake didn't turn into an accident is the benefit of the skidpan days etc...

when looking for a car ive always come down to the point where ive got a few potential cars and cant decide on which one to go with... including driver training with your car might make that decision a little easier to make :D

its definately a positive, especially if its someones parent that is buying the car for them... so why the hell not? it'd be a good experiment.

i reckon someone should throw in a skid pan day and see how that goes.

I dont think it will really help sell the car. I guess tho add it with an SAU membership (so they go to a skidpan day with other SAU members), it could be the swinging point for someone. And if its someone older then you just take it off the asking price.

That said if it means your able to sleep at night then its money well spent. If it means you save someones life, then its money well spent. And if you put it in with the membership, I have found SAU members seem to rub off good driving values to most people, so that would also help. A few people I know who have 400+rwhp cars said they would just sell them, wouldnt even turn down the boost. I feel thats irrisponsible. So what your trying to do should be comended.
