mmm but what if i get caught the 2nd time heheh....thats waht i was thinking of before aye  mmm i was thinking of getting a profesional to saw it or do something to it to make it jsut the length of the side....so it won't hang on the side...but yea what about the sharp edges? is it that sharp from you guys point of view?

wings arent allowed to protrude past the width of the boot was the last i had heard legaly but then i heard they are trying to ban that style wing completely

Ring Reno @ welshpool pits he is the top guy there

hehehe - what the heck are you trying to do? Fly away with that wing?!? I can see why the cops were attracted to your car. Best thing to do is get rid of the wing and put something a little more reasonably sized back on, otherwise you'll probably get more attention from the boys in blue than it's worth. I doubt the pits will give you a permit for that big T-Wing though.

see i would put something new on my car if i had the money....reno so whats his full name? and plus the wing came witht he car i mean im not rich but like i would prefer the car to be whole.....cheers so i want ot keep it

I had a gt wing on my old car regret it now, I’ve grown up now

I got yellow stickered for it, the guys at the pits told me to take it off as it is not stock. The pits guy said gt wings (the steel/alloy ones) are illegal due to being dangerous, sharp edges and they don’t "give" like plastic/fibre glass when something hits them. The guy gave me 6 hours to take it off (this was a signed agreement similar to a yellow sticker paper) and if my old car was seen on the road with it on apparently they can fine you, and if you cut someone’s arm off (haha, whose stupid enough to put their arm out in front of a moving car) you will be held 100% liable for their injuries and be taken to court by the police as u violate the written contract.

I mean the pits guy could have just been spinning a story, but the car didn’t pass anyway due to suspension.

Sold that car learnt my lesson not to do anything to drastic to the car, because cops are like magpies, there attracted to shiny objects.

Easiest way to do this is get a couple of rubber grommets and take the wing off before you go to the pits then u wont be signed up to their little scheme, and put it on when you get home. When I was at the pits this guy with a supra which I see a fair bit with a gt wing, he always takes it off to go to the pits.

I got a permit for my GT wing....for yours, there are no sharp edges...jsut the mounting position and the width.

your spoiler sticks out from back of boot and the width is wider than the vehicle...

so cannot get a permit..

hmmm so basically its gotta be inner and shorter hahah well i guess the only thing i can do is get rubber gromets for the mean while and stick it back on as said when i get home lol how long does the pits take? mmmm and prolly put one of those GTR looking ones on later in life so definately a no no i guess but yea how much are these GT wings worth when their brand new? liek mine?? gromets here i come hahah

take everything that u kno is illegal at the pits off, otherwise its just making more trouble for your self, and you will have to pay to go over the pits again.

how long will the pits take? well that depends, they do a pritty good check over the car, and take it for a drive. If you need permits now is the time to get them done.

As for GTR wings, most spoiler shops make a "copy" one, but u can get a real one from nissan but they will be pritty $$$. Try places that sell bodykits

mmm...i guess my car is fully stock apart from the gear knob, air filter and wing and a muffler lol...i got a permit for the filter and im taking it as the muffler is ok too i will take the wing off.....spoiler shops can u give me a name or something of a couple? im located south of the river lol i would order from nissan as i have for most of the products that where missing in this car and u are right tey are fortune makers !! hahah

    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
    • Sorry for reviving an old post, but I'm having the same hot idle tick issue. Did anyone ever find out what it was?  I have checked/ replaced Injectors Coils checked Lifter clerance (is at zero) Checked Cam lobes Replaced exhaust gasket and studs Would appreciate any advice this is driving me nuts
    • There's a huge reason manufacturers are tuning in dead flat torque curves... Make them reliable (and more drive able)
    • What HVAC actuator is under the steering wheel? Do you mean on the RHS of the centre console, immediately to the left of your shin? If so, then yes, it is probably that one, because that is the mode door actuator, and from what I know, it's still a pain in the arse to replace. I don't know about whole dash out, but you certainly have to rip into the centre console section. I don't know if it's covered in the workshop manual, as I haven't spent much time looking at those parts of it. (and by "the workshop manual, I mean the R32 GTR one, which is the most comprehensive one we have, and it should be similar enough between that and later cars to serve as a guide).
