Car Covers

I dont have a shady area to keep the car away from rain or sun so I was thinking of buying a car cover... opinions?

Im thinkin about buyin one as well..

After a gd wash, if i go park the car in the garage, there wil be crap from top of the roof that falls down n pisses me off..

covers range from 20-80bucks from super cheap!!

The only down side is, you gotta take it off each time you want to get into the car or work on it/put it back on..

I guess to protect your car, you should buy one!!

I think it's a good idea. At my house the garage is pretty much taken up by my dad's, mum's and bro's cars, so my car has no choice but to sit out in the front yard under the electricity wire where birds sit and shit on everything underneath it (should see some of the shit that comes out of these birds). Anyway, too save money and pain invest in one coz leaves and dust is not as bad a bird shit.

Prices do vary for em, but there are ones that have a special material that let the car breathe on hotter days etc so u dont get too much condensation inside the cover. I guess it's really dependant on how much u wanna spend.

A major consideration when buying a car cover, is where you park the car.

If you park in a garage as siddr20 does, then it should be fine, provided that the car is perfectly clean every time the cover is put on.

If the car isn't clean, you're dragging dust and grit across the car while trying to fit the cover.

If your car lives out in the open, take pressure points into consideration...

Unless it's a custom made cover, it won't fit like a glove.

Generic car covers are floppy, and will flap around in the wind.

This flapping eventually wears at the paintwork.

Dust and bird poo are temporary mess which can be washed off.

....unlike the damage which can be caused by a poorly fitting car cover flapping on the paintwork for 16 hours a day.

Some of the high-end generic covers will have fluffy stuff inside them, this does bugger all apart from cause bits of leaves, small sticks and other debris which get blown up off the ground to get stuck in the fluffy stuff, which damages the paintwork faster with each "FLAP FLAP FLAP!"

Take a look at some of the portable car ports.

They may cost more than a car cover, but they cost less than a respray.

some of them are utter crap. be careful and make sure u buy a good one coz if it rains, your car will be covered in dirt the next day despite the box saying 100% water resistant.

would any one be concerned about condensation being trapped between the cover and the paint work? after a while it may cause the car to rust or is just me being paranoid? that the second reason i dont use a car cover first being the whole scratched paint thing.

dad and i went halves in a car cover cause we share the garage so when mine is out side - i use the car cover - as its for a large car, you havre to use the straps underneath - otherwise big wind blows it off (which i found out..)

they keep the dew off the car and leaves and crap outta the way - very good if you dont have a garage

i guess just make sure the car is clean before you cover it up.

dont go the cheap brands either - i had one of them for my old VT commodore and the elastic just lost its elastisty, didnt last long.

Think we paid 80 odd bucks at kmart/auto1 for this one and extremely happy with it

I just bought a car cover from Supercheap, the small/medium size for about $30, and it fits my R32 GTR absolutely perfectly. Slips over the front lip and and rear bar and hugs the car nicely, no chance of blowing off.

clark rubber will custom make covers bit dearer but well worth it
