Has anyone ever had to remove the inlet plenum on an RB20DET motor before?

Does it need to be removed to take off the two rocker covers?

The rocker covers stay on the motor. The inlet manifold is in 2 parts. Just take the bolts out of the top then you can get to the rest. There are some you can get too from the top and a few from under the intakemanifold. I had my Rb20 in a S13 and I took the inlet manfiold off with the motor in the car. wasn't that hard at all.

yep, as mentioend, to get the rocker covers off you just have to remove the crossover pipe, there is one screw from memory on intake side where the mouth of the throttle body is, which was hard to get to, but not too much trouble.
