What the problem is there is a door in ur air conditioning under the dash.

When you press cold the door opens and cold air from ur airconditioning system comes out. When you press hot it closes the door on the cold and lets hot air come through.

That little arm thst moves the door isnt moving, the cold door is closed hense hot air

on my r32 i had the same problem but if i held down the cold arrow it would go into "FC" mode this was the only thing that made the cold air door open

i dunno if its the same on r33's

As suggested above, make sure the compressor is clicking on and engaging when you start the aircon. If it's not doing that, you have either an electrical problem, or the aircon needs to be regassed. With no pressure in the system, the aircon won't engage.

Another problem which can occur is when the dash has been removed at some stage, there is a little plug which goes into the back of the dash airtemp sensor. It can be easily knocked out, and the climate control won't work, thus blowing hot air all the time....although if you set the aircon to coldest setting you should get cold air.

R33, the sensor is in the dash to the left of the steering wheel, there is a little grill you can see in the dash. On the R32, its located in the centre console area I think to the left of the gear lever.

So check to see if you get cold air when on coldest setting, if you don't and you can't hear the aircon compressor activating, you most likely need a regas. This will mean the system is leaking somewhere, hopefully not in the evaporator which is behind the dash

As suggested above, it could also be the actuator which opens and closes the door allowing hot or cold air to flow. IMHO, that would be the last thing to check.

When all else fails, aircon specialists should find the problem in no time.

I have a similar problem- my compressor clicks on seemingly (rev's jump) though I only ever get ambient temp air coming out, even at FC. I keep blowing the same A/C fuse though, I've done it over and over, it only blows when I turn on the A/C - not during normal fan/heat operation. The fuse is #8 in the diagram below (R32 under-dash panel). The other A/C fuse (#17) never blows.

I figure I have a short somewhere, but where should I start looking? Any ideas?

#8 fuse is the fuel pump. I think you mean #10, in which case your windings are probably shot; there are some tests in the workshop manual you can run. If it is your windings, your looking at ~$120 and a day or two of work. See the tutorial I posted about removing and repairing it.

    • Knowing how slow their other compressors are that connect to the cars battery, you'd want to hope it's one hell of a slow leak!
    • So why can’t the front pipe just be listed as custom make? why does everything have to have a brand name to it? or if you have bought the car like this and have no idea about anything at all or no knowledge what so ever of parts how are you supposed to inform them of what it is you have exactly?
    • Yep, I'd be interested to hear how it works out in the end.
    • Because all parts that are put into your papers usually are assigned a badging if they did not come with one. So other people can just check that badging to tell if it is the parts your papes outline. But my pipe has NOTHING on it whatsoever. No idea why this even passed as a Mines pipe to begin with. I see this going two ways: -nobody cares and it's a non-issue, but that is unlikely -the pipe will just have to be assigned a bagding, for sake of argument, a Mines logo, and the papers corrected accordingly If it interests you I will post what the actual solution ended up being. All I care about is that it has to sound equal length and nobody can screw me later on because of a pipe being illegal.
    • The fasteners to the pipe are not subject to TÜV I guess, if we really start putting nuts and bolts through technical tests I'm going to hang the people responsible and then myself. Usually on a modern-ish EU normed car, you would just replace the pipe. Because if you start hacking away at it and welding new pieces on the cops will definitely find a reason to tow your car. That is just how it is sadly. On old cars and imports with no clear "standard" stuff like that won't matter too much. Most cops or inspectors probably won't even really know what they are looking at. But there is experts for this stuff even among cops, and some of them know the rules to a T and even have extensive knowledge about many vehicles. For "just a pipe" to be legal it usually is included in a set of parts, like a complete intake kit or a full exhaust. For example my exhaust needs to pass a noise test, meaning they have a standardized test track with a set of instructions and they run the car through there 3x for an average noise value that is 75dB(a) at point x of the test track. If it's above that, fail. For a turbo setup to be put in your papers you have to do dyno runs, emissions testing etc. So quite costly
