The other night I installed a Blitz front mount 'cooler in my mates '98 G-tt. I thought I would take it for a squirt before I started so I had a 'seat of the pants' basis for comparison. The car is pretty fresh off the boat, and it arrived with full exhaust (minus dump pipe) with high flow cat, HKS pod filter, Blitz ID boost controller, Bilstein shocks etc. It came on boost nice and early, (compared to my GTR) and all feels well till about 4000 - 5000 rpm, where the power drops off and the car just feels flat. I thought it would pull hard to redline. Boost held constant, but power was definately down. Anyhoo, I installed the 'cooler, but didn't get to drive the car again as it was late and my mate needed to get home. He thinks the car feels a bit better but not as much as he expected. My question is does the R34 have any common faults with the factory management, i.e running overly rich, retarding ignition timing? I know I have to get it on a dyno to see whats going on, but I havn't had much to do with R34s, and thought someone in the know on here may shed some light for me. I don't know whether the management has been touched at all....

Cheers.

After my cooler was on my car, i noticed the same. The car hauls until it gets to about 5000rpm, drops off then pulls again for the last 1000rpm.

The car enters a really rich state. After having the consult plugged in, u can see the AFR's it switches to as part of its protection. An aftermarket ecu or piggyback is the way to go.

I had a similar problem with my old R33 GTS-t. I would put my foot down and it would pull and then when i change up to the next gear and accelerated it went like a a piece of crap. Anyway it turns out it was my spark plugs, i got new ones and the car wnt like a rocket, so it might be worth while checking that out.

Hmm don't know my R34 pulls very nicely from about 2700, and then pulls even better from 4000 and kinda drops a little about 6500, but is hardly noticable.

Best bet would to get all the AFR and everything checked, it may be retarding the timing or something at the revs, one easy thing to try would be to reset the ECU.
